A Mexican-Polish citizen is moving to UK by summer 2011

Hello,
I am a Mexican polish citizen living in Sopot I have a polish wife and a Daughter.Presently teaching english in my city .
My Question is that i am planing to move to UK by summer,what are the things i have to fix in UK on arrival.Do i have to register or apply for resident permit...e.t.c..job.....Can someone give me a clue..

I am sort of confused where to start from since i dont have any information to that situation..
please you fruitful comments will be appreciated

No wonder Poles in Poland don't speak English.Why don't you rather teach them roofing or a landscaping,you know what I mean something you guys are actually good at.

Id try and have one lined up before you get here otherwise I just wouldnt bother if I were you,especialy not with a family in tow. You dont want to get here and end up on unemployment benifits and living in the grottiest part of town.

Can he get unemployment benefits in the UK without working there for a certain period of time?

I'll second isthatu, if you haven't got a job lined up don't even think about. The job situation is bad and getting worse. We're about to lose a third of the workforce where I work, it's the same everywhere. Local government spending cuts will also have a negative knock on effect on jobs.

My local council, has just stopped the subsidy to the bus companies, there will no longer be buses on Sundays, evenings and Bank holidays, this will mean less work for the drivers, half of whom are Polish, they will be on flat wages, the company may even lay a few off. It really isn't a good time to come here, unless you have a secure job to go to.

Very true in the cities. My advice would be to head to a town,for example Tiverton,Devon has plenty of work.

I doubt t. Even people who've paid their taxes for years have to fight to get anything back from the state nowadays.


Very sound advice. The days when someone could come from Poland, pitch up at an employment agency and get work right away are gone. Many of those here now are struggling to get anything at all.

I expect thats exactly what many Poles would like actually, i hear its getting tougher to claim these benefits though.


Where i come from most of the bus drivers are indian or pakistani.

Id like to know what kind of work Tiverton has and whats so plentiful about it.

Nothing special mate but jobs none the less. i lived there for three years and know many polish people who still live there, none of which have ever struggled to find work.

I do. But I spent most of Jan & Feb here due to the Libya thing. Back home to Warsaw soon.

As for the OP's question, I was walking through the town centre (Wakefield) today, and heard at least a dozen groups of young men speaking Polish. What struck me was not only that it was the middle of the day, but a few things about them that suggested they were both broke and with time on their hands. Even the local temp agencies that used to advertise in Polish seem to be shutting up shop.

Not a good time to arrive in the UK.

Thats interesting, could you tell me, did these guys leave Poland and travel straight to Tiverton? how did they end up in a relatively small town?


daisy you say you live near Tiverton could that be Taunton? either way its going to be a small city - right. I'm amazed that half the bus drivers there are Polish.

Is there any friggin town where you wont see them?


Its down right worrying. The extent of this mass Polish immigration to the UK has a long way to go in order to play itself out.

The majority of the ones i know went straight to Tiverton but i dont have a clue how they all ended up there .at a guess id say at there is at least a thousand and in a town of 17 thousand thats quite a lot.


Im guessing Exeter as they do have a lot of polish drivers


no,id be very interested to know just how many do live in the UK but i somehow doubt we will ever know

Theres 1 in 11 in my home town but its a fairly large city, its a little more worrying when theres so many in the smaller towns.


I would guess around 1,200,000 that were actually born in Poland and live in the UK. EVERY hotel ive stayed at in the UK over the past 8 years has had Polish employees.

hey,what I said had nowt to do with any anti immigration stuff,just me trying to stop a family pitching up ,presumably in search of a better life and finding that life is no longer available in the UK.

trust me,you dont want to be stuck in some Northern former pit town without any work and a heavy accent,even minus the accent Id say it would be mad for a Brit with a job in Poland to come back here and expect to just find a job without any prior contract.

(oh,and I live in a small market town,pop' less than 10,ooo,and Polish food is in all the little shops and I hear Polish everyday still and that goes back to early 04 too. So yes,the Poles did seem to skip a couple of generations as far as immigration movement go's)

What come to Poland and live off benefits? Its barely possible for Poles living in the worst poverty to manage on. It would be fair game if Brits could come to Poland and cheat their system.

Its our UK benefit system, its not for lazy as$ Poles that know every trick in the book to come over and abuse. Did i tell you the one about the Polish couple i met in Poland that are waiting to have a child in the UK so they can cheat the UK benefit system.

To go and milk any country that would offer them that opportunity !

In any case if you were a foreign national living in the UK and knew you could swindle a few hundred pounds a week, you'd probably do it, just like the rest do.

It all comes down to money, perhaps you have money, in which case you wouldnt need to cheat a system for the green stuff. Many of your fellow patriots do not.


theres nothing double standard about it, the only issue you could have is EU, even so theres no excuse for the Polish 100's of thousands that abuse the system.
