I think it may rather be due to Poles taking their welfare, and many being criminals in UK. The truth is that many poles emmigrate to richer countries for welfare, just like arabs, africans and south asians.

Money moving eastern. i can tell you that as economist, in let`s say 20 (maximally 25, from country to country) years, it would be normal that Poland, Hungary, Serbia or Czeska and some others, generally have more money then Britain or some other western European country. Predictions for Germany would be maximally on the level of eastern Europe, not above that level, with clear possibility for decline under that level. Those are mega-trends.

Perhaps your boyfriend is a builder for a Polish firm in London, thus native-born Brits don't see him specifically as the competition aka the enemy:-)

The current narrative is that Poles have it worse in the UK than blacks, in terms of mistreatment. Is this true? And if so, can someone explain the logic. I've been told it is because mistreatment of Poles isn't classified as a hate crime. Surely this can't be the only reason right?

Another point regarding the beating: tragic, yes - but so much media hype... Poles also commit crimes abroad. Other times they are the victims. Would you expect in any other way from nearly a 1m strong population living in the UK?

There is so much hype because mainstream media wants to blame brexit for everything, there would be no hype if brexit went other way, simple.

But it's worrying when you have a polish boyfriend and are carrying his child. I'm worried someone might fight him.

Same analogy for Syrians now in Germany, perhaps Turks are a better example, because they too, like many Poles, also show an entrepreneurial spirit and continue to face discrimination...even those who speak perfect German:-)
