Polish living in UK wants to divorce Polish husband

My girlfriend is Polish, and she is separated from her Polish husband for 2 years now.

We are now engaged and so we are keen to get her divorce sorted out, but her ex has all the paper work and may have even married again (which is obviously illegal). How do we go about getting the divorce? I/we don't know the law either here or in Poland so are trying to find the best way to go about it.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Beats me why people ask such involved questions on an internet forum.

In order to get an involved answer of course, and because as well as it being anonymous on the Internet, it's also cheaper!

Why can't your girlfriend take a flight back to Poland and sort the matter out with her ex.

She can also visit a lawyer while she's here.

Or is he not in Poland

I suppose you've already checked his movements on Facebook, naszaklasa, etc.

You've got no real idea if what someone says on the internet will work in your situation or be reliable.

If she wants a divorce, then her best bet would be go to Poland and speak to a Polish lawyer.

Another attention seeker...Absolution of marriage is after a certain time ( If divorce is partitioned) (I know..and Im sure you have found out on the net!)...means you are free without consent of another party! As for the other person getting married, involve the police, not a forum! FFS!

How do we go about getting the divorce?

In some cultures, it is acceptable to text somebody threet times stating:

I divorce you. I divorce you. I divorce you.

Then she would be right as rain. But maybe not in the Polish culture. You better look a little farther into that one.

Only reason I posted here was this site came up in a Google search when I asked the question pointing to a similar post about divorce.

Obviously, if he was back in poland it would be easier, and I would go over there with her to sort it out, but he here and not co operative which is why we are looking at a solution from here - hence posting the question.

Not looking for attention, least of all from an Internet forum, it was just a simple question in the hope that someone based in the UK had managed to get a divorce through the system here.

Thanks for the advice anyway.

You'll have to forgive a certain amount of cynicism on here when it comes to threads about marital problems as there have been loads already, most probably made up.

If not made up, they tend to follow a pattern: "I'm worried he married me just to stay in the country and now he's f****d off, what do I do ?!"

I think you're going to have to put your hand in your pocket and hire a lawyer.

Hi I feel for you and for those who have never been to Poland or even out of the UK, the rest of the world does not work like it does here in the UK. Polish red tape is nothing like you have seen before and the only way is too grease the wheels of justice with cash.

My advise is seek a lawyer here in the UK, your first meeting is normally free. We have gone down this route and the divorce is on its way.

Hope this helps and forget the negative feedback you get from people on here, they dont know what love is anymore..

I've always found Polish bureaucracy pretty easy to deal with (without greasing anything). Once you know how things work and work with the system (instead of against it) Polish bureacracy is a walk in the park.
