Hyperthetical question about publicising information about a Polish citizen in the UK

How does one stand with publishing information about a Polish citizen in the UK and this information becoming available in Poland via the Internet indirectly?

The Pole is in Poland so that fact is clear. I'm sick of a certain situation thats been going on for 20 months now and looks set for at least another year. I want an end, my partner wants an end, but she is more forgiving than me so it won't happen. I respect her decision. If this guy was living near you, and you were aware of the facts, you would not feel comfortable. What is worse is he is a policeman.

Knowledge is power and I just want to feel that power for a moment, be it brief and useless in this case. I know the limitations here in the UK, and I also know how Poland can protect the guilty in Poland.

So what has he done ?

Ant - Poland has a concept called criminal libel. You want to be very careful in this respect, as Poland thinks nothing of abusing the EAW system.

But does something published in the UK come under Polish Law. For example if the good old "Sun" printed a photo of him would they incur the wrath of the Polish legal system? It's interesting.

The Sun for sure would know if they incur it or not. Do you think they are not professionals in publicising information?

Given the way that the websites of UK papers are happy to name Poles accused of crimes in Poland (e.g. that Krakow bus driver who beat a British girl unconscious and then left her to drown in a puddle), it seems that the Polish rules do not always apply.

They could do, but the UK lawyers for The Sun would laugh in the face of the Polish legal system.


As is usual here, it probably depends on how deep the relevant pockets are.

I do think though that Poland doesn't interpret libel the way that England does, with the insane provision that if someone can access the libel in England, then they can be sued in England.
