I'm going to a Polish New Years Eve Party in England, help?!

Hi everyone,
My family are Polish but I was never really taught Polish as I was growing up so I cant speak that much Polish, alothough Iam learning it at the moment :)

Anyway, here in England, I have a few Polish friends and one of them has invited me to a new years eve party at his friends house. Everyone there is going to be Polish and from Poland so they will all be native Polish speakers. Iam getting very anxious now as I only really know him (my friend) and nobody else. Also, everyone will be talking Polish and I will feel like I'm annoying everyone because they will have to talk to me in English. I will of course, try and use my polish as much as possible, but it would only be little phrases like please and thank you or hello. How do I fit in more? Even though Iam one of them technically, I fear I will feel like a outsider :(

You'll be right. They're not going to ignore the only foreigner there... They'll speak to you in English or you could strike up a conversation too?

It's New Years Eve, just get drunk and have fun! Either way you'll know a lot more Polish by tomorrow morning...

I fear I will feel like a outsider :(

Decent people know that if there is a foreign guest they should use the language which the guest knows best. , Knowing that you will feel like an outsider. they should have a friendly chat with you and try to entertain you. That's how me and my friends act if there's someone who doesn't speak polish among us... Hope you're gonna meet the right people and some boors.

They should try to fit in, they are in UK, they should learn the language. This is your country, don't let them walk all over you.

Don't worry, Polish people dance at the parties. Even if you can't talk to anyone you always can dance. I was once at a party with all Mexicans without knowing a world of Spanish, but they danced like crazy, so I still had a ball there.

Thanks guys! In the end it was probably the best New Years Eve I have ever had in my life! I didn't want to go home! :D
