I've had a number of British workers over the last few years as well as some Jamaican origin British workers. I've found that the British workers ethic is just not what it was. They always seem to be trying to rush out of the door at exactly 4pm regardless of what work needs to be done that day.
From arriving late to smoking during the working day to wanting numerous unnecessary breaks to cutting corners and not following the correct procedures as well as not following instructions the list goes on.
It's really beginning to annoy me.
I even had one worker who I instantly sacked for sitting on the garden wall of a house next door to the job hawking up phlegm whilst smoking and spitting it into their garden then unclogging his nostrils onto the pavement, disgusting uncouth behaviour which reflects directly onto me and my business.
It seems to me also that British youngsters don't want to work at anything other than sitting on their backsides pressing buttons. I wanted to learn a trade when I was younger boys these days want to be typists. I don't understand that at all.
Honesty also seems to have taken a nosedived.
I'm basing what I've said here on my experience of the last few years trying to recruit suitable staff.
I can see the the Europeans are here to fill the void caused by the above.
Of course I've only worked with men for the last 20 or so years and I don't know much about working with women these days but in the age of equality I suppose I should just treat them exactly the same as the lads which brings me onto my next point.
I've worked with nothing but guys for years and now I'd like to give an opportunity to a lady.
I want to know how to go about recruiting a young Polish woman as a trainee for my business. The job will involve preparation and decorating in both private houses and onsite. Labouring which would include mixing up, handing things, keeping the work area neat and tidy, making the tea etc. There will also be some administrative, filing and leaflet distribution work.
My work is all over South West London and I typically start at 8 and finish around 5 though I'll often work later and weekends. Temp to ongoing position.
So if you know of anyone who would be interested ask them to get in touch with me at david@beirneandsons.com or at least point me in the right direction.
Needless to say that she'd need to speak English because I can't speak Polish.
