UK: How to create a perfect scapegoat?

Good lesson:
express.co.uk/posts/view/232505/-250-a-week-for-every-migrant

Average reader's impression:
A 100000 Poles will get a £250 a week. The UK would lost is £25000000 weekly. And £1300000000 yearly!
Outrage! They are robbing us! This evil EU ruling has to be stopped! Arrrgggghhhh!

Actual information: Before any citizen of the "new UE country" can claim any benefit in the UK, she or he is expected to work legally for a certain period of time. This period is now shortened from 12 months to 3 months.

That's all.

lol, what kind of effed up system is that? Wow, i get 250 for being Polish... I'm scheduling my next VK in London to pick up my money.

BTW what is wrong with your government?

Wow. I'd almost forgotten the Daily Express existed. Much lower profile than it used to have maybe?

It's basically the Mail with the emphasis on neuroses turned down and the pomposity turned up isn't it? It kind of used to be anyway.

I love the Daily Express. I've learned so much about Polish "culture" and tradition reading this.
For me and my friends it's a great source of entertainment.

And yes - I'm Polish. :)

I was being sarcastic you douche. I don't need a hand out and I believe your government is degrading Polish people by heading out money like that. What I really wanted to say was that why don't you take that 250 and shove it up your as*.

Just out of interest, has anybody ever heard of any British person ever managing to claim benefits in Poland?
liliala
7 Mar 2011 /  #12
No because they are so small that they don't bother to claim for it.

Try telling the tax man "The tax in that is so small it isn't worth paying."

I think if you knew how little money people in Poland can claim you wouldn'd even bother with formalities. Here are diffrent living standards and I can't imagine an expat living on a Polish dole...

I can't imagine an expat living on a Polish dole..

The reason that I ask is that my understanding is that one of the conditions Poland imposes on EU nationals who want to live here is that they are not a burden to the state (which is why, for example, in order to get the certificate of right of residence here an EU citizen needs to prove that they have medical insurance in place) and that any EU national who becomes a burden to the state can (under Polish law) be deported.

really? I didn't know that.

EU citizen needs to prove that they have medical insurance in place

it's better to have a medical insurance. If not you will have to pay from your wallet if it happens to you to land in a hospital. In Poland a person who is unemployment is insured by Gov but has to be registered as an unemployment person. The rest is obligated to pay the medical care insurance subscriptions

Yes, all that I know. What I'm wondering is whether it is possible for a British person to say "I have no medical insurance because I am unemployed and I therefore expect the Polish state to pay for me" without being told "We won't give you medical coverage but we will give you a lift to the border."

is 800 złoty a month actually worth claiming for a Briton? I am being a little bit sarcastic and somewhat inaccurate :)

"We won't give you medical coverage but we will give you a lift to the border."

Can a Polish person come to Britain and claim a dole whitout working there for some period of time? No. So probably you also have to work for some period of time to attain the right for claiming benefits in Poland. Ask delphiandomine - he knows everything about expats' legal problems.

Government dole creates dependency so giving away money is never a good solution to a problem.
There is this old saying
Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. Teach a man to sell fish and he will start a business.

Are the Polish people to be blamed for this irrational EU's decision? Oh, but they're so damn poor they need it. Is that what you really wanted to say enkidu and Alex? Look at “them” they’re getting free money because they’re damn poor Polacks… You know what? Fock the EU, and fock your stupid problems. Here is some Polish culture for ya, you as$holes

Damn, I'm so glad that I don't have to live there and hear about this s*it daily.

one of the conditions Poland imposes on EU nationals

Frankly - it's a law in the UK too. It was agreed that the rights are exactly the same for the EU nationals in Poland and the Polish people living in the EU.

Basically - as a Polish national I have got a right to live and work in the UK under the condition that I can support myself and my family. If I fail this - I can be legally deported. That is what Polish EU access treaty says.

I would call this a fair deal.
Very fair indeed.
That's why I came to this country. For a hard job that is well paid. To make my life better.
I have never apply for any benefit and never get one. And I am proud of this.

Of course this is only theory, because for some reason I don't understand, this law is not enforced in the UK. And this is pure madness. For some reason the UK government decided to support a numerous Polish immigrants that are unable or unwilling to work hard for themselves. I don't even blame these people. The "free" money has been offered to them. So they took it.

And I don't blame the Polish government for enforcing the law properly on the Polish soil.
The only to blame is the UK politicians that are so soft and "culturally aware" for the needs of the minorities that they actually betrayed their own people!

Forgive me, I am just a poor immigrant trying hard to understand this country, but I don't understand why the British government hates so much the British people?

I wouldn't say that, maybe just average an Brit impression !?eh?
alexw68
7 Mar 2011 /  #28
Surprisingly, no. The loudest objections are actually coming from what I'll paradoxically call the indigenous immigrant population - Those from the Indian Subcontinent who have done exactly what enkidu has and worked their way up.

Let's not forget there is an underclass of Brits who is at least as bad at gaming the benefits system as any of the more recent arrivals.
