Characters of Polish in Wales (writing a novel)

Hi everyone. I am writing a novel and one of the characters is a Polish man who comes to work in Wales and finds a job in a slaughterhouse, as many Poles have in this area. I would like to hear from anyone who does this sort of job, as I think it is very important to paint an accurate portrait of the character. I am also interested in hearing stories of how people came across from Poland to Wales, especially if they came through agencies, and of the experiences they had.

Many thanks for your responses in advance.

I was recently in Wales, near Llangollen. The area around there is very strong Welsh speaking. Apparently there were a lot of Poles in that area. SOME of the locals, allegedly, were not happy about the influx.

I was told this by a local woman (English) who worked in a historic monument in the area. Probably there is another side to the story, of course.
