Nurse Chaplin, who is approaching retirement age and has cared for thousands of patients over 30 years, was told by the NHS Trust to remove the cross she first wore at her confirmation service more than 40 years ago. She refused, and is currently banned from working with patients.

A hospital spokesman said the cross had been banned for health and safety reasons - not religious ones. "A patient could grab a chain and cause injury" he said.

And, the nurse and the church claim this is against her/their freedom? Whats opinion of the patient in coma? Who cares..

Kill em

... or something perhaps not quite as strong. I get the impression it is more acceptable to upset Christians. I think it's only really acceptable to upset scientologists.

Health and safety is a big thing in the UK and has been from the HASAWA of 1974 (I think 74).

I don't think it was a religious thing. People sport football tops so why can't crosses be used, especially in a hospital?

Wh*res and tr*llops, many of whom for some resason seem to fancy this particular symbol, should be banned from blasphemously wearing crosses round their necks.

Yes,especially Ukrainian girls never get rid of their big cross, they may not wear sth else but the cross stays in place to protect from sins.

As Bill Hicks said, "Do you think if Jesus comes back he ever wants to see another f***ing cross?! Kinda like fans of JFK walking around with little gold sni[per rifles round their necks....." :)

Bill Hicks is a legend! You can't ban sth which is the pillar of some communities. It's just a step too far. Crosses can often be discreet and precious few take offence to people wearing them.

Unless of course it depicts the prophet M.

Er, you've got that the wrong way round. There is nothing in Islam that depicts the prophet M.

The teachings of the prophet M is theoretically the basis of an entire religion. His image has been effectively banned by some, but not all sects of Islam. Interesting depictions, including the one from southpark... ;-)

From same website. It seems that Wijngaarden is one of the few realists out there.

I find it truly amazing and shocking that Greg completely ignores the tsunami of child abuse in the Catholic Church, while coming up with this nonsense item, which is already older than a month and has no relevance to anything besides sensationalist's claims that Catholics are being discriminated nor does it have any importance whatsoever. An offer out of weakness, Greg, shame on you.
