Dzien dobre.

Can anyone advise me how much zloty I should be taking with me to Wroclaw?

I will be there for 3 nights and want to have a mad time!!

Is 5,000 zloty enough?

Cheers.

More than enough unless you are staying in 5 star hotel.

Thanks.

No all the hotels were booked well in advance by UEFA.

We have an apartment but that is already paid for.

We just want to have a decent time so are taking £1,000 each so just over £300 per day/night (1,700 zloty)

Not sure what the clubs/pubs are like and how much everything is? Hopefully should be enough?

You could check the bedclub.pl or just google clubs and pubs. You will get all the menus on line and be able to see how much things are. Beer around 10zl, prob will go up for the football. Shots are larger measures than the UK.

If you want a top meal, around 150zl or just a burger and fries then 30zl.

We have seen bed club and reserved VIP for the Friday. Looks decent.

Take pounds and convert in a Kantor for the best exchange rate, something like 1% spread is generous, anything more a rip off.

Not enough for a strip club, but more than you could ever spend on food and booze. Its about... 500pints of beer.

Best to change your money at any number of local bureaux de change which are called "Kantor" - for example at the moment you will get 5.26zl per £1. The city centre has a few, but they are also inside many supermarkets. You can even try to negotiate more if changing over £100 at a time. I used to. For example, in the past some would give you 5.28 or 5.30 or even more on £100+ changed, instead of 5.26. Ask around, negotiate, politely but persistently.

Take your credit/debit card and maybe 500-1000 zl in cash, you will be able to use plastic in most places, rates are not that much different. Remember, there is no black market for currency in Poland so if anyone offers you deal that's too good to be true, it probably is...

sa11y is right, better use your cc, or take cash from ATM to spend in bars, clubs, etc, even if they accept cards. Wroclaw is an excellent place for "mad time" in my opinion better then Krakow. Just go to "RyneK" (old town square) and you wil see. All pubs, bars, clubs worth to visit are located there. You'll feel like a VIP spending 1700 zl/night.

I'd be very wary about using a cc in some clubs. Two places in Krakow were accused of taking tens of thousands of pounds off credit cards without the owners approval.

They failed to get the money back as they were present during the transaction.

Note also the credit card charges and exchange rate are much worse than converting cash

I'd also be wary. And never, ever choose the option for the money to be taken in sterling, euro etc at a fixed rate. The same goes for ATMs. This isn't a Poland specific thing - it is Europe-wide, however it is a scam by the banks to convert the money at a lower rate.

Personally If I were visiting for the Euros, I'd maybe bring a small amount of zloty, no more than 50 or a hundred pounds worth and some sterling to change at the bank. The kantors will probably inflate their prices for the Euro2012 however the banks won't.

One good thing for visitors (from Britain, anyway) is that the zloty has plummeted against the pound due to the euro zone crisis and depending on what happens in Greece may plummet further. Already it's about 20% less than a few months ago!

Buy your foreign currency in your local bank. You will get a better rate there.

It's back to where it was briefly in January, but the pound is much weaker against the zloty than it was a few years ago. You could get over 6zl to the £1. And before that 7zl.

Is that a joke? What rate give a better rate than a Kantor, at less than 1% spread?

You sure about that? By taking the rate given its fixed at that. However if you allow it to be calculated it can go up or down.

Its about... 500pints of beer.

Actually its more like 700 pints at what i paid for last night,

Kantor in Wroclaw is 5.26

centkantor.pl

HSBC is 5.030

hsbc.co.uk/1/2/travel-money/apply

I wonder which one I would use?

Even when I started to use BZWBK, one of their staff said I would get a better rate in a Kantor
