Guerilla taxi finding (I've used this in a few countries at train stations and airports and it's always worked)

Wait in the place that people going to the airport are left off by taxis. If they seem okay leaving the taxi and not upset then they're probably locals who know which taxi companies to use. When in doubt ask the driver for a rough estimate of the price to get where you want to go.

I've never been ripped off when doing this.

Wait in the place that people going to the airport are left off by taxis.

You will find that this tactic will not work at most airports. Taxis usually have to be authorized to pick up from the airport and even pay fees for the privilege of doing so. If an unauthorized taxi is found to pick up passengers from the drop off zone, they could be in serious trouble.

Even if the driver would be authorized to make airport pick ups, if they just arrived to drop off another passengers, they would most likely point you to the taxi pick up point where their colleagues have been waiting in line. Again, if they are found to skip that line by picking up in the drop off zone, they could face serious trouble.

I've never been ripped off when doing this.

Probably because you didn't do it too often if at all.

Yes. And most (from firms of radio taxis, basically the ones you'd want to use) generally have their next journey lined up beforehand so are not free. That and them wanting to be decent to their colleagues who are further up the list for an airport pickup.

I was going by the Gold Taxi, the hotel ordered me a taxi. It was some kind of limousine (probably Mercedes). I paid 70 PLN.

If you're going there from the middle of town and it was a better class of taxi that price is fine. Should be only a little less from a cheaper firm.

@All I thought about my transport beforehand, I found one of taxi services online and decided to try out booking online, I think the name of the site was gdanskshuttle.info It turned out to be great, the driver was really polite, I knew how much to pay becuase I could pay online. I think it's a good alternative for people that want to plan one's trip form beginning to an end

Hi! Can you recommend me a taxi that will have child seat inside the car for sure? I'll be travelling with my 3-year old son in May and I'm looking for such service.

@Magdalene_rose I know only one company in Gdansk that provides child seats and you can find more at travelgdansk. They have child seats in all of their vehicles, excellent service from the customer point of view. They also have attractive prices.

Hahahah you what? At least change your nickname, which not equals to name of your company and stop treating people as dumb...

And about this men - better watch out for him, meaning that when he pretends somebody else in the web, it probably is the same with his "luxury" car...

TaxiGdansk - has the local goverment given you any grants for your loss of earnings?

The new Metropolitan train has absolutely destroyed the taxi service I would have thought. It's a world class transport link to both urban centres of Gdynia and Gdansk and I never need to pay for a taxi ever again.

Exactly, the new train is excellent isn't it. There isn't any need for those shark-like airport taxis.

Hello there,
Do you have some advice about best way (and price) to go from Gdansk Airport to Elblag?

Thanks in advance

There's a railway station at Gdańsk airport now (not long open!) with a shuttle to Gdańsk Wrzeszcz.

The best way is to get a train from the airport to Elbląg (you'll need to change at Gdańsk Wrzeszcz) and the journey will take about 2 hours (a bit less if you're lucky). Prices for Polish train travel are low.

Another advert. Must be getting desperate since Gdansk got not only Uber (much better value than the old-style taxis and honest too) as well as a new fast (and very cheap) rail shuttle direct from the airport.
