Starbucks in Wawel Castle, Krakow. Is this a joke or true?

Hi guys,
I've heard rumors that Krakow has their first Starbucks open in the Wawel Castle, yeah inside the castle territory (krakow post/article/1979) Can someone tell me is this true or just a joke, since if you see the post date is on the April's Fool.

Thought anyone?

Well everything is possile now, as Wawel's prestige has been going down the tube lately;)

No good hits on Google. So probably it's just a joke.

This would have caused a huge amount of discussions on the net.

I visited Wawel 3 weeks ago and I didn't see any Starbucks there. There was a large area outside of Cathedral blocked for construction but anyway I don't think Administration would allow that. They were always strongly against ANY food stand there.

who would want an starbucks anyway? the coffe tastes like sewer, it is all about branding, specially among girls who want to feel like sex and the city chraracters, walking around with their paper cup and feeling cool and cosmopolitan...hehe makes me smile...

Starbucks is opening a coffee shop in Galeria Krakowska any time soon.

not really, the coffee is fairly good and with the fast life style the cup to go makes sense, since many people drive with their coffee, unlike in Europe. The coffee culture has been developing in North American long before Sex in the City. I like good coffee and I am not a snob.

Is it Krakowska or Kazimierz? I was shopping at Alma in Galeria Kazimierz lately and saw a Starbuck announced.

And the church that holds the black maddona is opening soon as a Macdonalds....???

there is already a place with delicious coffee and ice cream! why to spoil it with yet another Starbucks?!!! :(

I wouldn't even say that Starbucks coffee is fairly good to be honest. I have been in a few round the world (generally meeting people) and I have been constantly disappointed with the quality of their coffee. Really the lowest rung of the ladder in my opinion.

Obviously you are right on the button with convenience coffee though aphro, I hardly ever have time to sit down and have a decent cup of coffee any more. So a paper cup on the go is ideal (as long as you get it quickly). I just don't see why people go to Starbucks for this when, in lots of places (in Kraków at least) that sell coffee will just as happily give you a cup to go for half the price (and much better quality, more often than not) than a chain coffee shop.

Ok, I'll bite. Anyone in Wroclaw know where to get better coffee than what is dished out at Starbucks?

that is OK, I guess I am not that demanding- I just like the taste, always drink mild with steamed milk. I guess it is the best in the area and since I live in a big city I cannot travel miles to search for the best cup of coffee.


people go to Starbuck to sit there for hours, do work on their computers and so on. At least here. Cannot be done in other coffee shops.

Not a clue about Wroclaw, but if you come to Kraków there are plenty of places that will give you a better coffee, but a lot of them don't advertise take-away coffee.


Or macbooks to be more specific...or is it just me that's seen that??

well, I am a ahppy Mac owner for the last 3 years, but I leave mine at home:)P. I have seen other brands:)

Never got into Macs myself, but each to their own. And good to know you don't pose pretending to write something important with your Mac in Starbucks.

probably why they're closing stores...in melbourne starbucks is usually frequented by internationals who dont know better.

first of all, i gotta wonder if a Starbucks coffee in Poland will taste anything like Starbucks coffee in America. Pepsi/Coca Cola products taste COMPLETELY different in Poland than in America and they're made to more exacting standards than a cup a' joe. Starbucks coffee here will have different water, different milk, different sugar most likely.....different coffee. i'm not a coffee drinker so i couldn't tell you the difference myself.....but i'm just sayin'.

you don't even see travel mugs in poland. in the states, people often times make coffee/tea at home in the morning, put it in a plastic/stainless steel travel mug, and off they go. saves a ton of money and keeps your coffee/tea hot for an hour or more.

That's what I do. Savings plus I have a cup I like. I tried couple of times Starbucks but each time those 12 questions about how do I like my coffee got on my nerves. They have the best blubbery muffins I ever had, though.

That's because they use that awful high fructose corn syrup in the US vs actual sugar here. The milk is pretty much the same, I think in the states they use UHT as well. The differences shouldn't be any different to regional differences in the US.


The one here in Wroclaw is always full. But most of the coffee is sold there, not many people are taking it to go. Maybe if they had a drive through or something, dunno.

Isn't that the same for any Starbucks? Expensive coffee for the middle class. Starbucks seems to have changed the coffee culture in the US.


Some of us like the taste of sugar better than HFCS. Always liked the taste of Mexican soda...

If you like good coffee, what on earth are you doing in Starbucks? There is one directly opposite my apartment building: I've been there three times and do not plan on ever going back. The first time I got probably the worst sandwich I have ever had in Poland (and it was only a BLT, nothing fancy!), the second time I got watery latte that tasted of pretty much nothing, the third time I ordered a small black coffee (to see what their basic ingredient was like) and got a cup of bitter nastiness.

I am in Toronto and the coffee tastes good, possible because other coffee outlets have worse coffee.

you might be onto something. I have never tried Polish Starbucks, so I cannot tell how bad or good it is. besides, I like strong coffee and Starbucks seems to make it.

I am in Toronto, not in W-wa - I was there over a month ago and I tried a different coffee chain - forgot the name (they have sandwiches is stuff- the same idea as Starbucks though), it was pretty good. Starbucks coffee is strong, but once you have it with steamed milk it is good. I make my own coffee at home, go to Starbucks when I am on a go.

The best coffee I had in South America- Venezuela.

Some people do, but you find the mugs in places like Go Sport and so on.

It's definitely the smart option.
