Ryanair travel by air - subtle scams to be wary of

I've never had a problem with Ryanair's punctuality.

Recently it seems, every time I walk into an airport, the most serious delays on the board are invariably with wizzair. They are seriously issing me off.

yeah the days of deliberately turning up at the airport 30 minutes late as you were expecting delays are well and truly over when meeting somebody of a Ryanair flight. At least its a little lighter on the pocket with regard to extortionate car parking fees.

Ryanair are never late, as that costs them.

As John said I have also never had a problem with time. Ryanair arrive on time and get to their destination on time as well [or earlier]. Yes they ass lots of extra costs on, such as baggage, but that is because the price of the ticket us usually very low. Easyjet is worse. I have seen lots of television programs about how poorly they treat customers when something goes wrong and they often have delays.

I flew home to Belgium a week ago with Wizzair (actually to Eindhoven,). Yes they were late twice, outbound 30 minutes (made up 15 minutes of it) inbound 15 minutes (arrived in time). But what the heck? What is a 15 minute delay...Nothing....Plane was clean, staff was friendly, and I like their luggage policy. You pay 15 EUR one-way for 32 kg. For me that is a good deal. It was still a lot cheaper as LOT or Brussels Airlines.

If you would arrive late by train 15 minutes...you would think it is normal (at least I would).
I flew once with the Ryanair thieves from Charleroi to Glasgow - never to be repeated.

Is it true Wizz are charging for cabin baggage now, if flying from Luton?

Apparently yes, they are trialling it on some routes for some cabin baggage sizes:

We all love low-cost airlines when everything goes well, but when there's a problem passengers are made to feel like cattle. Or worse.
The first and last time I flew with whizzair was from LHR-WAW. The flight was delayed for a couple of hours. OK, stuff happens, but there were no staff around and no information. Finally we were put on a plane with no livery, and with staff whose uniform bore no insignia. It must have been some kind of standby plane and crew for hire when airlines needed them. OK again; we were just glad to board. The cabin crew came round offering drinks. I asked for a coffee and water. No hot drinks on this flight. OK, just water. Sorry, no water. What? I asked the flight attendant if it was legal to transport pigs without water. ffs

****, that's horrible - unless it's a deal that you can take much bigger bags if you pay now.

Ryanair will follow - Wizzair and Ryanair actually have quite similar ownership (hence why they don't compete really) - and they will follow WizzAir if it works.

Aaah. Horrible. I can put up with everything so far, but this is just too much.

More than likely, unfortunately.

The best thing with the low-costs is to treat them as you would board a bus (fo example here in Warsaw). Sometimes it comes in time, sometimes not. Perhaps the A/C will work.

Sometimes (as on our flight Saturday) there are people on board who are definitely drunk.
Cattle class all the way, but cheap.
The low-costs will always be looking for new ways to extort the passengers.

I was enthralled. Menus of gold chains and turkey sandwiches. Everyone sitting closest to the back. Tiny cokes in plastic cups, $2.49

The first and last time I flew with whizzair was from LHR-WAW.

Thats sucks and thats why i always drive where possible.

I had this dream the other night where by i boarded and took off on a LOT flight, all of a sudden it was obvious that the pilot didnt have a clue what he was doing and was flying all over the place. Then WITHIN my dream i remembered a thread on this site about LOT and how poorly maintained their fleet was, and i remembered thinking ohh crap now im in real trouble.

Next time book a flight with LOT or BA and pay up or shut up. If you pay 150zl for a return ticket what do you expect? Flying used to be a luxury afforded by the few who paid through the nose for 5 star service.

Man you missed out the part where if you want to call customer service its 10p per minute. and you wait at-least 10 minutes. and then they just accidentally hang up on you.

Plus they charge you 6 for online check in. That doesn't make sense at all.

Ryanair is value for money.
I travel 3-5 times a year with Ryanair Manchester to Rzeszow or Kracow depending on availability.
I dont want pampering on a short flight, dont need to eat or a pillow and blankets.
If I'm nice to the cabin crew they are nice in return.
Booked again for march and at £36.00 return including all charges, all I'm hoping for is someone nice to talk to.... :0)

ryanair travel insurance is a scam.

you might assume that if your flight is cancelled that you are covered.
however cancellation is defined as cancellation in the event of your death (in which case claiming on your travel insurance might not be your highest priority)

alternatively the policy covers cancelling your holiday if the flight is cancelled due to bad weather and no alternative flights are available, under 'holiday abandonement' but refuse to pay out unless your flight was cancelled after also incurring a delay of at least 4 hours.....which is not what the policy wording states.

if they cancel the flight at take off time or with less than 4 hours delay then they claim you are not covered.

absolute scam.

Ryanair have to put you up in a hotel if the situation is that bad, due to eu/Iata law.

The hotelthey use in krakow is in the middle of no where. Not much fun to stay.

Still, getting something for nothing from those tight gits is worth it on principle

Just got scammed yesterday by Ryanair and their web site. Firstly, the web site is designed like a maze with many 'snake pits' where you can fall for any or all of their dirty tricks. Currently this site takes an age to navigate just to book a flight and they keep directing you to all manner of add ons you don't want and have already refused previously. The most sneaky trick I got caught out on was the insurance scam. Firstly the default is for health insurance but instead of having a simple yes/no they make you click a drop down box titled country of residence. The drop down box has a large list of countries which most people would assume the beginning of health cover choice. IT ISN'T as right at the very bottom of this list of countries is an entry that says no insurance in small font. I fell for it and entered Spain as my country of residence and got distracted by the next web page but it had added health insurance unbeknown to me.

Michael O'Leary, may you die a horrible death very soon as you're one despicable, slimey, SOB who should be strung up by your gonads !!!

So have a read of the policy and then make a suitable claim. I mean, you really were convinced that you were having a heart attack, weren't you?

Rynair Scam Car Park: I booked a car park under "Stansted Park and Ride" and after making the payment, I realised the car park is in a field miles away from Stansted Airport boundaries. If you book car park as an ADD-ON to your flights, you won't be given any info where the car park is. The official car park of Stansted is much cheaper for the same period.

Ive parked at Stansted a few time over the years and usually for around a week, the park and ride was the cheapest at the time. Theyre private companies arent they, these (park & ride) airport parking facilities.

even with the extra charges? i mean flights advertised at £4.99 etc are not exactly that once you start the booking process.

I have had no major problems flying by ryanair. They are cheap and the service also reflects this but I think they do a good job considering what you pay. if you don't like it fly BA or Lot. I know the rules they are clearly displayed. If you're not sure about the extras buy them separately. The www is not the nicest in the world but you have to simply engage your brain and concentrate. It's not hard. I remember when I had to travel to a travel agent's - it took at least an hour out of my day now it takes 10 minutes on a website at home anytime of the day. I also used to pay return flights wawa - London in the 90s £180 now 15 years later 1/3 of this. Not many things cost less. Fantastic!

That's the point: they are not cheap any more. My mother is thinking about coming to Warsaw at the beginning of May: Ryanair from Bristol to Modlin (with a hold bag) is £114; on the same dates LOT from Heathrow to Chopin (at far more attractive times of the day) is £126. Obviously it's not a concern in this case (I'd go pick her up), but if you needed to take taxis to and from the airport, the extra 140zl that would cost makes Ryanair more expensive than LOT.

It is very difficult for people who are not familiar with these kind of scams, it may not be hard for you, but not everybody is like you. Ive fallen for some of their subtle trick's when ive been in a hurry to book an online flight. Ones i wouldn't even be aware of if i didn't use them as often as i have.

Calling it scam is not fair. It's rather opportunity to save. Because in the end you see final price and you can agree on it or not.

Exactly. Anyone who doesn't like the way Ryanair, Wizzair, Flybe etc work can always go back to companies like BA, LOT etc and pay much more.

Or less, once you factor in the taxis to and from Modlin and the cost of taking a bag.
