Recommendations for Krakow and Myślenice

Near the centre of Krakow just over the bridge is were the Jewish Getto was in the Podgorze district
There are strange eerie sculptings of chairs there now.
Symbolising the furniture and other personal objects that the Getto's Jews were forced to leave behind as they were transported to various death camps.

Near by is Schindler's factory,

The grand opening is scheduled for September 2009.

For book lovers, I recommend Massolit Books & Café in Krakow for second hand and new books.
They do not sell beer it is not that type of place :)

It is a very cool American/Jewish/Polish bookshop and Café.
With a retro feel and lots of 1920's jazz and blues played at respectable levels.

So if you are in Krakow and fancy reading a good book, pop in.
I personally love this place, I used to spend hours reading the many books there.
And don't be afraid to go through the door at the back of the café into the main library section.

I am not affiliated and I do not know who runs this wonderful café/bookshop.

Also they have the nicest bagels in town.
So if you are looking for a quiet time, good environment and a comfy place to read, a short walk from the market square, look no further.

I was debating whether I should put this on the net as it is one of my favourite oasis :) but life is to be shared :)

They have a huge collection of books, mainly in the English language.
I also had my very first bagel in this place about nine years ago.

Not to far from me.Im back at Christmas ill try and make a visit to Myślenice.

I have just heard that the Drunkarnia pub moved across the river (Wisła) over to the Podgóorze area.
And being the intrepid explorer I am, I will bravely seek out this bar and others.
Actually Podgóorze is an up and coming area in Krakow and there are many pubs/cafe etc there, so I will check it out.

They are supposed to be building a foot bridge across but I see no work done on it so far.
I also heard that the Drukarnia moved out of Kazimerz because it has gotten too expensive and click there.

I climbed the tallest mountain, swam the deepest river, in the pit of last night, on a journey that was froth with danger and I found the holy grail or as it is now known as the "Drukarnia Jazz bar".

It is two bars in one, funky place, 7PLN a beer and we got talking to the owner about the Polish women's volleyball team getting the bronze last night.

There is also, what looks like, a very nice restaurant beside the Drukarnia.


This part is not very true, we went to see if there are any other places and there were but you would not want to go in.

The bar is across the river (Wisła) over to the Podgóorze area, where the new pedestrian bridge is going to be built, when will it be built?, I don't know but they left a pile of rubble there so maybe next summer.

The bridge is only for pedestrians and cyclists and Krakow is becoming more and more cyclist friendly with cycle paths being built pretty much all over the centre.

Something else of real note in Podgórze and very near the Drukarnia :) is a fantastic Neo-Gothic St. joseph's Church.

Going to krakow next week, any advice?

Me and my brother are going to krakow next Thursday for 5 days. Is there anything I should know or do or see? I know that I want to go to energy 2000 if I can, a polish friend said it was really good.

I've heard both the good and bad things so I think I know what to expect, any advice would be helpful.

Due to the volcano ash.

The airspace over the entire Polish is closed. The country does not work or one airport . The reason? United ash cloud over Europe . LOT evening appealed to their passengers , not to pretend to the airport. Cruises may be canceled up to Sunday. Predictions as to when the cloud is already outside the Polish are inconclusive.

There is also a Greek mythological lake and a huge insect park (the insects are huge, not the park;) but I did not go to either of them although I heard good things.

This is great, really appreciate the info. I'm a student learning polish in Krakow and visiting myślenice this weekend. I wonder if anyone wants to meet up? I'm around until tomorrow evening
