Can anybody recommend any good places to go in any of these cities? Either places to eat or drink, or things to see. Will have a day and a bit in Przemysl and a couple of days in both Rzeszow and Sandomierz. Have been to all of them before but not for that long.

or things to see

Since you mentioned Sandomierz, check the article "Koleiny Jagiełły" (in Polish), about the Royal Trail leading from Kraków to Wilno,
polityka.pl/wakacje/wakacjewpolsce/1507240,2,koleiny-jagielly.read

The trail leads through Koprzywnica, Sandomierz and Zawichost. The article describes some places to see in these three towns.

Edit: I forgot to add that there are some lovely pictures attached to the article. One of them is a current view of the Old Trail in vicinity of Ostrów Lubelski.

Thanks for that. You been to Sandomierz? I much enjoyed my days there. Przemysl is the one I really want to find out about: I was only there for a couple of hours but the place seemed superb.

Yes, one can easily see the influence of many cultures over the centuries...
If you like classical music check their Capella Premisliensis, conductor Marek Zazula (at least this is what it was three years back) - Bach, Baird, Twardowski, Górecki. I have one of their DVDs here. Not bad...

Przemysl is the one I really want to find out about: I was only there for a couple of hours but the place seemed superb.

It's not a big place, but it has a few things of note. Several interesting churches, the castle is interesting - and in particular, there's a rather big park leading up to a truly fantastic vista of the town (along with a great downhill track). I'll find more details for you - I spent a really enjoyable afternoon/evening there. The Rynek is also a very interesting place, especially in the evenings in summer.

Sadly, food-wise - Przemysl seems pretty poor. There's an okay pizza restaurant on one of the main streets, and I'll dig up the details of an acceptable restaurant on the Rynek.

If you're interested in modern things at all - take a trip to Medyka and see the Polish/Ukrainian interaction at first hand. It's still rather wild on the Shegyni side - border formalities are a doddle, but you can see the gulf between Poland and Ukraine in those two villages alone. It's a 2zl trip each way on a minibus from the train station in Przemysl. What's most notable is the Biedronka just outside the border crossing - it seems Ukrainians bring vodka/cigarettes to Poland and then bring back all sorts of other stuff to Ukraine!

I was only in Rzeszow for a couple of hours - but it seems that it has been renovated well - it certainly seems nicer than Lublin or Wroclaw in the centre!

Will certainly be going to Ukraine, need to reset my three months and quite fancy getting a few packs of Parliament cigarettes (no longer sold in Poland).

Sadly, food-wise - Przemysl seems pretty poor.

I hear that there is a half decent place which has worked over by Magda Gessler, Barcelonka, but any other suggestions would be great.

Really? Lublin is my favourite city in Poland.

Will have a day and a bit in Przemysl

On my one visit to Poland, I saw a nice place outside of Przemysl. There's a village right on the border called Siedliska. You get there by turning off the road to Medyka before you reach the border. If you follow the road through the village into the forest and keep going after the sign that says not to, you'll find a large old Austrian fortress that's gradually being overgrown by the forest. It's a little dangerous to walk around there because there are tunnels and shafts and nothing is marked. But it's fascinating in a spooky way.

Merged: Sandomierz, Jaroslaw, Przemysl and Zamosc

Anybody got any tips on where to go with these places? I've been to all of those cities multiple times in the past and pretty much know where we're going and what we're doing (particularly all the Molotov line bunkers in Przemysl), but I'd be happy to hear any places anybody has been to in that area which they really enjoyed.

Cheers whichever mod that was, for some reason this thread didn't come up when I used the search engine.

Merged: Planning to visit Rzeszów, Przemyśl and Zamość. Need opinions.

Witam wszystkich!!! I am a long-time "Polish Forums" reader, but this is my first post. :-)

I am currently planning my next trip to Poland (I have visited Poland five times in the last 2.5 years) this coming October. My dziadek was born in southeastern Poland (a small village called £ukowa). I have never visited this region of Poland. On my upcoming trip I would like to visit Rzeszów, Przemyśl and Zamość. Maybe Lublin, too. Is there anyone here on PF that either lives in these cities or personally knows anything about them?

Yes, I have done research on the internet, but I would like to hear personal opinions. What should I see? How many days should I stay? Maybe there are other places nearby that I need to visit? I will have up to two weeks to explore southeastern Poland. I'm interested in meeting Poles, taking in the culture, finding my "roots," eating great food, drinking amazing wódka, playing my guitar and maybe dancing on a few tables. ;-)

Any information is appreciated!!! Dziękuję bardzo (in advance)!!!

g :-)

That's a superb part of the world. I'd suggest that you go there as early in October as possible as the end of October can be a bit cold for walking around whereas at the beginning of October it's not unheard of for bars and restaurants to still have outdoor seating (for the more hardy customers). I liked Rzeszow the least of those three, although that might well have been because the hotel was so unpleasant (luxurious but badly designed and with exceptionally unpleasant staff), the Old Town square is certainly nice enough. I'd give it one night or perhaps two. Przemysl is excellent and has the friendliest people of all those three. It's also the cheapest of the lot (you can have a large beer on the Old Town Square for just under 4zl) and wonderfully original. Unfortunately it's let down by the lack of a decent hotel. Even so, at least two nights. Zamosc is the most touristy of them (no surprise, given that it's a UNESCO World Heritage site and the other two don't have much in the way of traditional tourist draws) but far from crowded. The hotel choice there isn't superb but there are at least a couple of options. Probably three nights

How are you planning to travel around while there? And how good is your Polish? The answers to those questions affects where else I'd recommend.

BTW: you'll want to spend at least one night in Lublin and quite possibly two, it's a cracking city with a wonderful Old Town, excellent people (lots of students) and some superb beer. And if you're flying into Warsaw, a night here might not be a bad idea.

Hey Harry!!! Thanks for your input!!! I'll be visiting Poland the first three weeks of October. I live in Montana, United States. I know all about and actually prefer cooler temperatures. But currently it is 30C in my city. I'm melting!!!! &*$^%&#^*#!!!!

How are you planning to travel around while there? And how good is your Polish?

This will be my sixth trip to Poland. I travel around the country by train (and a bus every now and then).

As for my Polish... Uczę się polskiego. Polski jest bardzo trudny!!! Kocham, kocham, kocham końcówki polski słów!!! OCH!!! Nigdy nie zrozumiem. Eh... Mój polski jest jeszcze kiepski, ale jest coraz lepszy każdego dnia. ;-) I like to say that I know just enough Polish to get a hotel room, buy a train ticket, order food and hopefully not get my face slapped. ;-)

Merged: Planning to Visit Rzeszów & Przemyśl... Need advice on what to see and do there

Cześć!!! Um... Najpierw... Jestem głupim Amerykaninem. Mój polski jest BARDZO kiepski, ale probuję. OCH!!! Kocham, kocham, kocham końcówki polskich słów i gramatykę!!! Nigdy nie zrozumiem!!! To jest szalone i nie ma sensu!!! Nie lubię języka polskiego. LOL!!! ;-) But my English is VERY good!!! ;-)

OK... I am planning my next trip to Poland this coming April/May (this will be my 7th trip to Poland). I would like to visit Rzeszów and Przemyśl. Actually, I visited Rzeszów for the first time last October but I had a VERY bad cold and spent most of my time in bed. The only things I saw in Rzeszów were "Galeria Rzeszów" and "Wielką Ci... Er... Uh... "Pomnika Walk Rewolucyjnych." ;-) I wanted to visit Przemyśl but I was too sick to go. :-(

So... What is there to see and do in both Rzeszów and Przemyśl? Museums? Rynek? Dance clubs? Live music? Good restaurants with traditional Polish food? How many days should I stay in each city? Also, is it a pain in the d*pa to cross into Ukraine for a few hours just to say I was there?

Any information is greatly appreciated!!!

Dzięki i na zdrowie!!!

"Gienek" in Montana, USA :-)

PS I have been reading "Polish Forums" for a long time but I don't post very much.

PSS Tak!!! I had help writing the first paragraph. Dziękuję bardzo, Ewelina!!! ;-)

It's no point crossing the Ukrainian border if you are not going to visit Lwów (Lviv). Few hours? You may spend them waiting in a queue at the border crossing :) Especially if you go there by coach (or train - in case of trains the problem is that they must change wheels due to a different track gauge). There is a trick to omit this, but few hours is for sure too little to get to Lwów and visit it.
