It must be true, it was in an episode of "Kryminalni".

But don't worry, you'll never get as far as having your organs stolen. They'll just gas you on the train.

;)

Your organs are in danger when you enter in Poland. You may lose your kidneys, your lungs, your liver even your penis given the amount of hunger. There are cannibals, mosquitoes, robbers and a whole deal of dwarves.

Cheery, if your appendage is short, you have nothing to worry about in this country.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. The trade in organs is worth a lot of money, and where there is money, there is crime. London is one alleged centre for black market sales, both of voluntarily sold organs and those obtained in other ways.

BBC NEWS | Health | Call to allow body organ selling
news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/4719374.stm

"Although illegal in most nations, and viewed as unethical by professional medical organisations, the voluntary sale of purchased donor kidneys now accounts for thousands of black market transplants."

The doctors suggested a figure of about £23,000 for a kidney, with an agency being set up to regulate the market.

I think you are getting confused with the Albanian mafia's treatment of Serbs. Here in Poland? Forget it.

You have more to worry from having your wallet stolen more than your organs. The only time you have to worry about your organs, it will be to late to do anything about it, because what makes you will no longer need a physical body. Keep on your toes and a hand on your wallet and you will be fairly safe while traveling in Poland. I was there last year for 2 weeks and I had no problem whatsoever even with the problem with language. But then again, I did not advertise that I was tourist. I dressed down and acted like I belong there and I enjoyed the trip. Since I was the first of the family to return to the old country.

Everyone is joking about this but there is such a thing as "organ thieves." I have heard that unsupervised children are more at risk than adults, but when I was in Poland this October, there was an incident in an Auchan marketplace (I forgot what city) in Poland where a child was rescued from kidnappers who were planning to take the child's organs.

HAHAHAHA. Not this old story again - IKEA is usually the place mentioned, but now I see Auchan has joined the list.

How did they know the kidnappers were after the organs? :)

They're joking about it because there has never been a single documented case of this happening in Poland.

No worries mate, people there freely sign their own death sentence especially when they are uninsured or under-insured, all for a privilege of proud organ donor to be displayed on the back of their driver license.

Your information is correct. You clearly have top class sources. Unsupervised children are undoubtedly more at risk than adults.

there was an incident in an Auchan marketplace

When the bad guys were arrested and being dragged away one of them laughed hysterically and shouted, "We came to kidnap a child for its organs." His accomplice pleaded with the arresting officers, saying, "We tried IKEA but the car park was full of dinky media types, and Biedronka...fooo!"

It's displayed on the front, not on the back and symbilized by the image of a little red heart.

Good point. Portable keyboards are much easier to snatch than the full-size church type. Cheery, you should consider bringing a friend (or friends if you are toting anything bigger than a Farfiza or electric baby grand). Though a little antiquated, the excellent 'Stylophone' could be a solution if you just need to keep in touch with your music while travelling. In any case, get insurance.
