Trying to plan trip to Poland for 2012

Hello! My wife and I are wanting to take a trip to Poland in summer 2012, and the local travel agencies are not helpful. We were planning to go sometime during June or July, are these good times of the year to visit? Neither of us speak Polish, will it be difficult to travel Poland with us only speaking English? What are some of the best cities to visit or stay? Thank you!

Avoid June it is the Euro 2012 cup in Poland, July is a good time but book in advance. Plenty of nice cities Gdansk, Warsaw, Torun, Krakow, Zakopane and Wroclaw.

First time to Poland? Don't know the language? Do yourself a favor and check out a group tour. You'll ride around the country in an air-conditioned bus seeing all the sites with your own personal guide, who speaks both English and Polish. Then, come back on your own for another look.

Hello. I've visited Poland 4 times. Krakow, Gdansk and Wroclaw are the cities that most amazed me, they are absolutely stunning. There's some kind of magic in those towns that you just can't find in America... Poland sort of takes you back to the time when there were princesses and kings on the streets, and it just feels like a dream. The first time I went to Poland, I expected a country rich in culture, but I would never have dreamed that it is so modern and developed as it is. My conception of Poland was Auschwitz and a couple of nice castles, but there's just so much more than that...

The nightlife is really something, and whether you're young or not, you'll have fun in those cities I mentioned. If you're looking for a calm and wonderful trip, you can also sit in any of the numerous cafés in the center of the towns and delight yourself.

There's a lot of culture, art, presentations, colors... It's just amazing! You will see!

Ah, and if you're a nature person, you can't miss the mountains in Zakopane. They are called Tatry Mountains, and they're definately the most beautiful I've seen.

And yes, june will be full of tourists, they expect over 2 millions. If you're a people person you'll like it but I myself would go in july (and I am going) :)

If I were you, I would plan a flight from the US to Amsterdam, them onto Gdansk. I would hire a car and then break the trip from Gdansk to Krakow into 2 night breaks. You could spend a few days in Sopot (nice beach resorts), Warsaw, Wroclaw, Zakopane, Krakow. I have done the drive from Gdansk to Katowice before, with taking a break(maybe 1 hour for food and move the leges) every 4 hours, it took about 12 hours. If you go on to the AA roadwatch website you can print out the route you need to take. It's a lot more fun to hire a car than to go on a bus tour.

it's gonna be significantly shorter now as there is motorway from Gdańsk to Toruń ready now (and it's still gonna be free this summer as far as I know)

Krakow, Wroclaw and Warsaw are cities you should visit in my opinion. In big cities English should be enough :) Many people thing that Warsaw is ugly but i disagree. You have to remember that it was terribly destroyed during a war. In Warsaw I recommend Oki Doki hostel :)

I'd say that Warsaw, Krakow, Gdansk and Wroclaw are the best cities to stay at the first visit in Poland. I hope it's still an actual topic.

Try visiting Krakow and Warsaw. Krakow has a beautiful old market and Warsaw has many spots that you should check out :)
