pawian: The pre-war Polish Post office, famous for its defence on 1 Sept 1939 and execution of Polish workers by Nazi Germans.
I didn't know anything about this Pawian. It's really sad.
No, pam. It isn`t sad today. It was sad when those people gave their life, either during combat or later in hospitals and executions, including the 10 year old daughter of the post office caretaker. It was sad because those people had families who mourned them and also, there were many witnesses of their suffering and pain.
Today, they are all gone. The sad moments turned into glorious history of Poland - thanks to me and other history lovers like me, those heroic people who died for Polish Gdańsk will be immortalised on various pages till the end of this world.
E.g.,
Konrad Guderski (19 February 1900 - 1 September 1939) was a Polish engineer and military officer. He was the organizer and commander of the defense of the Polish Post Office in Danzig in the first hours of the German invasion of Poland, 1939. He was killed during the Defense of the Polish Post Office in Danzig, during the World War II invasion of Poland by Germany
Alfons Flisykowski (22 September 1902, Gorrenschin, Kreis Karthaus, West Prussia, Germany - October 5, 1939, Danzig-Saspe) was a Polish worker of the Polish Post Office in the Free City of Danzig in the years 1923-1939 and a second commander (after Konrad Guderski) of the defence of the Post Office from the invading Nazi German forces when World War II started on September 1, 1939.
Flisykowski was captured by the Germans on 2 September 1939 and handed over to the Gestapo.
More about them in the Museum of the Gdańsk Post Office.
