Hello People of PF

I live in the UK and have a Polish friend who is schedueled to fly home to Poland this Friday (23rd) Due to the situation with the Volcano in Iceland it looks unlikely she will be going by plane,

So it thought that maybe traveling by train (from the UK to Poland) was an option... what do you think?

I am hoping that there is somebody who may of done this themselves who can give me information such as prices, time spent traveling, destinations etc...

However in the meantime I shall look into this myself but your input would be very much appreciated,

Thank you
Kind Regards
Adam

I did this some years ago and found it more expensive and slower than by bus. Bus services don't stop at night, trains do. At best you'll have minutes between connections. At worst it could be hours.

Make sure you take a boat part of the way, or take the Chunnel to Paris and make connections from there.

Best bet (if travelling from Poznan or Warsaw, or inbetween destinations) is to take the night train to Amsterdam, then head to Hoek van Holland for the ferry to the UK. Easy, painless and much, much quicker than by bus.

I'm driving to the UK from Poznan tomorrow and have a seat spare, Just splitting the cost of fuel and ferry between 4 of us.

Edit, just realised its the wrong way round.

Merged: Letting the train take the strain (Best connections UK - Krakow)?

As we live 2 hours from Krakow, we normally fly or drive to the UK. But we've been aware of, and tempted to try, the Jan Keipura connection - EIC to Warsawa, JC to Amsterdam then via ferry to the UK. But it takes the better part of two days.

From 2016 DB will run three ICE services each way, each day, between London and Cologne in four hours! 140mph in the UK then 200mph in Europe.

Does anyone know what the best connections would then be to Krakow? Or to other parts of Poland?
