Sailing in Masuria Poland - boat rental
Who has experience sailing in Masuria?
i've spent three holidays there.
Has anyone rented a sailing boat there? Any tips on reputable companies?
i can't help with this.
Generally:
most people seem to go where the wind takes them. meaning that it's a truely relaxing way to spend time.
most of what you see is water and the shoreline, which is mainly trees.
not a good idea to swim in the water these days. too much waste in the water in some places.
make sure you have a decent rope when navigating the canals. the reason being that you can sometimes get a tow.
there is a bird sanctuary where low speed and no engines must be observed.
get off the boat once in a while and walk through the forests or along country roads.
there are plenty of bars and places to eat in the port areas.
the mozzies can sometimes be a problem. cover the hatch with a mozzie net.
most boats are about 5m in length.
Thanks Wroclaw!
My idea of fun on a sailing boat ... ;). The idea is to "warm up" my wife for sailing. Sailed from NL to UK and back a couple of times and around the Azores for whale and dolphin watching (and swimming). So I guess I can handle a lake ... ;). Sailing "the big pond" is still on my wish list, not to mention sailing around the world. Guess I am too chicken to just give up everything I have and "take the plunge". My wife hasn't been on the water too many times, so I thought I would rent a boat for a couple of days to see whether she could start liking it.
You've got to be kidding me ... :-S?! Really?! What a shame!!
That's why I want a sailing boat ... ;). Other reason is no noise from an engine.
If anyone knows some decent rental company, I'd be much obliged.

Merged: Poland's Masurian Lakes- Boat Hire
We are thinking of going to the lakes next summer and were hoping to hire a boat for a week or two. I do sail, but as we'll have a baby with us this year we'll be keeping it strictly to one of those slow moving cruisers people use on the French Canals (like the ones Le Boat or Localboat offer)! Both of those now do offer charter in Mazury I believe, but I suspect it will be much cheaper to go with a local company, so if anyone can recommend a company that could offer the following that would be much appreciated:
6-8 berth
1 (ideally 2, but that may not be possible) toilet/bathroom, not one of those awful chemical ones, a proper one!
Available for 5-10 days at a time
Pickup close (well as close as possible, I appreciate we will have to travel a bit) to a train station as we will fly into Gdansk or Warsaw and then get a train (unless told otherwise, as I assume a cab direct would be insanely expensive).
Powerboat (not sail), a small engine is fine
That's about it, any recommendations appreciated!
