I'm from Warsaw and i can say that it's much safer to visit Poland/Warsaw now than few years ago. Now it normal for us to hear other languages on street. If you want to visit Warsaw I can help.
For a very long time I've been thinking about how to help foreigners to feel good in "my" city. What i can say now - I work 8am-4pm but for a little salary (for helping, travelling, explaining...) i can help to find the best way to get somewhere, to find a good restaurant etc. So if you want to come to Warsaw contact me on glinka87 (at) gmail
Apparently its a bit dodgy walking round Poznan just now. I hear there is an upsurge in the Police pulling people up in the street asking for ID. Stepping back into the past?

This is the difference in our languages ' come2warsaw ' in English if you are looking for ways to help someone, it would normally imply ' offering services for free' it seems you are looking for ways to make money out of tourists in Warsaw, 'therefore 'business'
Whoa! I'm traveling back to Poland in a few weeks with LOT--the whole way from Chicago! Can anyone confirm or deny Mike's post about no more free alcohol on LOT flights? When did this happen? I was happy to be able to book straight with them as the food and drink is usually good, and no stopovers in Western Europe.
I think a concierge service for travelers to Poland would be great. I would love to go there myself and be shown around the city by someone who's familiar with the area and not necessarily the standard tour/tourist traps. Or know I can call someone if I need to figure out an address, good place to go, where the train is, etc. Or be able to call someone and ask if they could make a few inquiries for me (for apartment or whatever, just phone calls). Or tell me how to get to consular office or wherever.
If you enjoy what someone does for you in a restaurant, waiter, bartender or whomever, you tip them (some even still tip the gas station attendant when he fills the tank). It doesn't need to be made into a business. Sometimes the best places grow from word of mouth.
Well,I don't know what to think.Got here on Friday, staying (temporarily) in Norridge and I don't like the fact that Polish is spoken everywhere here.I kind of worry that I will lose my English skills (you know, you don't use it, you lose it).I mean you can live your whole life here and don't say a single word in English. It's a very strange place from my perspective.Went to the bank on Sat,the greeter dude told me "Dzien dobry",I had to look at the tellers names to pick one named Lizzy whom I assumed to be not Polish so I could chat in English a little bit.I mean don't get me wrong I have nothing against Polish as I am one of them but I want to speak English at least from time to time.Went to Best Buy to buy me a laptop, same story there. Not to mention Food Mart where everyone is Polish. That's too much.
It depends on where .. wannabe Western citys like Warsaw, who try to act multicutlural and international are maybe safe .. but citys in Upper Silesia are rather not safe, when you drive alone. In Germany, they warn toruists who plan to visit Poland only to visit as group. Car renters dont allow to drive to Poland with their cars .. you have to sign a contract. But maybe these are only .. stereotypes .. ^^ :D:D
they do no such thing in Germany upper Silesia is about as boring as it gets and i speak as someone who has explored Chorzow Myslowice and other places
You live longer then 24 years in Germany?? Then please show me the last known incident, where a black man in FF/O was attacked .. and if we are in this topic .. show me last incident, where a German guy was attacked by foreigners. *lach*
Then please show me the last known incident, where a black man in FF/O was attacked
So show me accidents in Poland that ended in killing refuges in an arson attack/ Like has been a serius problem in Germany not so long ago. What is German excuse - poverty and lack of jobs? phew!
although it is not strictly related to this topic but I think it fits in here.. I am planning to visit the old country in 2014, i am saving up already, just travel throughout the country, for an example I have never been in Poznan, or Lodz. But I am not sure would it be safe to travel alone in trains, as I heard there is still a big problem with theft on trains.. or is it not true?
While in tube don't you watch your things? Common sense applies to Poland too: always carry with yourself the value things; if you can't, ask a person who sits next to you to look it while you're in the toilet (of course don't do that when you expect the train to stop).
safe to travel alone in trains
it's safe unless you travel at night. I have never travelled at night so I don't know if it true that it's unsafe but people say so.
