If your ever visiting Wroclaw:

Aladdin is great, good value for money.

Spice India is terrible, I will never go there again!

Very funny to see how the contents of IYP restaurant reviews change. Classics here in Warsaw such as the Boathouse are suddenly not anymore mentioned...Samira also vanished....Namaste...as well. I guess the editors did not get any freebies anymore :).

Also, places which IYP praises into the sky, such as Legends, Fish&Chips, Warsaw Tortilla Factory get on Polish forums and in Polish reviews (non-expat) a very cool reception.

Wentzl in Krakow,

I adore Wentlz in Krakow but the café section ( delicious ice creams, cakes) nice relaxing atmosphere outside in the Summer and inside in Winter.

What about the very luxurious and expensive classic restaurant FUKIER in Warsaw ,is it still doing well ? This is the typical expat place for me and i think the meals are mostly covered by corporate credit cards.

polkalover: Wentzl in Krakow,

I must disagree. The icecream at Wentzl is nothing to write home about. Far superior (though still not great) is Italia Lody across from Wentzl at the galeria. Everyone recommended 4D, but according to me, even Wentzl was better.

whilst its not exactly upmarket, i cant sing the praises enough of a small polish eatery in krakow called koko. its just off the rynek on ul. golebia. only about 6 or 7 tables, but food was lovely and the place is always busy. i ate there all the time( i was on a budget). will definitely go back next time i am in krakow. the one place i wont be going back to is miod i wino.polish restaurant on ul.slawkowska. food was average but the service was terrible. my waiter sat me down, plonked a menu in front of me and walked off, before i had the chance to say id like a drink while i look at the menu. i did eventually get my drink, and when my food arrived,it was just plonked down in front of me. after eating,i gave up on trying to attract the waiters attention for the bill, so i went up to the counter to pay. lo and behold they couldnt find my bill. i explained what id had to eat and drink and my waiter then started shouting at the poor girl behind the counter who burst into tears.i just couldnt wait to leave....

Tandoori house Sopot.

Curries price range from 40 - 50 zloty. ( average )

Service 2/5 ( poor )

Attitude 1/5 ( speechless )

Proprietor 0/5 ( rude. Polish, clueless )

Tables internal 10 x 4 seating, ezternal 4 x 2.

Business 50% ...... serve time for first drink 1/2 hour, serve time for poppadoms/pickles 2 hours, serve time main course 2hrs 30 mins.

Food quality 5/5 ( excellent )

Advisory : With 4 waiting staff, I can only assume that the kitchen has one authentic chef slaving away on his own, hence the long delay times. When one takes into account that per waiter/ress 5 persons to serve, should be a stroll in the park. Help in the kitchen should be a priority, along with a lesson in customer service would make this place a winner. Until then I will be returning to the Thai restaurant at the top end of Monte Casino.

A bit of a novelty, but Dark Restaurant in Poznan. Great food, and quite fun. Also Artemis Taverna, if you like Greek. The owner is extremely friendly.

What I see that IYP often drops well-known names from it lists. For example Lolek is nowhere to be seen in the printed version. I suppose this is because the writers do not get freebies anymore there. The local critics have often other opinions as the IYP expats.

IYP has gone downhill massively - at least, the Poznan edition really has.

The problem with IYP seems to be that it can't make up its mind as to who it is really for.

Also, they should really update their texts. Some of them are way behind the reality. Regarding the reviews - I really it has to do with freebies. I mean a certain outfit has been in favour since the beginning, and then suddenly is dropped....

But Warsaw Insider is even worse.

But Warsaw Insider is even worse.

The worst of the lot is The Visitor - it's all based upon paid-for content.

Also, they should really update their texts.

Yes - for a long time, the Poznan edition had many pubs/restaurants that simply didn't exist anymore.

La Cantina on Nowy Swiat has gone right down the pan. I used to really like it but was appalled on my last visit.

For Turkish food, Lokanta (on Nowogrodzka? the bit between the back of the Polonia Hotel and the Marriot) is excellent.

A real hidden gem is called something like Jazz Cafe, in the pedestrianised shopping street by the south-west entrance to Metro Stoklosy. Great food, and cheap before 7pm. I haven't been there for a while, but I hope it's still going.

The best restaurant in Gdańsk? No competition here if you like fresh, delicious, and sophisticated food - Rastauracja Filharmonia (near the opera house). Our best dinner in Tricity ever!!! :-)

That one's great. Another very good one is just across the water on Target Rybny. It's called Taverna Dominikanska and wins prizes. Not expensive.

Agreed. Absolutely foul. And the irony is that when they first started round £ódź, they were actually quite good. One of the few places that served lamb.

Last time I was there (and it was the very last time), we waited half an hour for the starter and they brought the main course 3 minutes after we finally got it. Not at all apologetic and it was as if the waiter just didn't understand that anything was amiss. He probably genuinely didn't.

Krakow:

Pizza Garden - Best pizza I've ever eaten ul. M. Konopnickiej. Fantastic brick fired oven. Tiny and no booking avaliable. Gets VERY busy. BE warned.

Moaburger - New Zealand burger place - akin to Gourmet Burger Kitchen in the UK. Delicious pink burgers made fresh on the premesis. Run by a New Zealander. ul. Mikolajska 3

China City - The only Chinese worth going to. Polish style Chinese is rank as, but this place is authentic and good (albeit a little expansive) ul. Brzozowa 18. Décor is horrendous. Food is lush. Dim Sum anyone?

Ogniem i Mieczem - Proper polish food. Mock banquet style. Very expensive. Excellent for tourists. Away from the main town. Their specially made honey vodka is delicious. I recommend the ribs. Serkowskiego 7

Szweik, on pl. Konstytucji? Special offers on certain days, but heavy on slabs of cheap meat and very bland food. Also packed with giggling groups.

For Turkish food, Lokanta (on Nowogrodzka?

Samira is also good for Med food, at reasonable prices. It is near Biblioteka Narodowa on. Niepodległości. They combine the restaurant with a shop where you can all these Med foodstuffs. Accent is on Turkish cuisine.

Samira (restaurant and shop) is great - authentic too - however since we were last there, I gather they've put the prices up.
