Rental car thefts high in Poland?

My husband and I are planning a trip (our first) and thought we would fly in to warsawa and rent car but I just read rental car thefts are high. Should we join a tour? That worries me because we want to wander around on our own.

I guess one can buy a cheap car in Germany depending on how long you both planning to stay in Europe and then resale it or just leave it behind when your stay is finished . Renting a car is generally good option but expensive plus all the extra cost for insurance and security deposit. I simply bought a car years ago and keep it ready in Poland whenever I visit motherland.

Maybe but usually thieves pretending to be customers. Do they really hunt for rented cars?
