Poland in photo riddles

The markings on the plane aren`t original. During the war the plane flew in a Canadian squadron, later it played a role in the film Battle of Britain and Poland bought it in 1977. The current insignia relate to the Polish 308 Squadron which used this type, Mk.XVIE, at the end of the war.


One of my fav museums in Poland, combat planes were always my hobby, the ceiling of my bedroom was cluttered with models.

No, of course not - I suffer from height anxiety. Whenever on the roof of a scyscraper, Iike in Manhattan, I never looked down.

I think its good to involve the others instead of dolno subjects, I guess we have already done architectural stuff errm , boats, trains, tourist spots, famous poles could be sportsmen etc

I've seen that one, it's in Gdynia. ORP Błyskawica, a destroyer.
It's now a museum ship but was in the Polish Navy I think.

Yes! There were two destroyers, Burza (Storm) and Błyskawica (Lightning). I managed to visit Storm before it was scrapped in 1970s.

I looked at it on my mobile and could see the lettering a little better. It says something like ' special edition on occasion of 40th anniversary of communist reign in Poland. Obviously someone had a perverse sense of humour! Especially given that communist rule wasn't yet over. I'm still missing something though, and I can't find out anything about it online.

Yes, Sołdek was the first ship built in Poland after WW2. That was some achievement because the shipping industry had been completely destroyed.


Ok, so the riddle is: who did it? Why did they do it? What was the historical background of their motives? :):)

It is available in Polish version. I always suspected you know a little Polish after all.

I have been doing a little reading :) Those solidarity banknotes ( and also stamps ) were produced in PRL times and issued by underground publishing houses. They were educational ( and patriotic ) in that they perfectly demonstrated the values and beliefs of that period in time. I think maybe they served as a reminder for future generations not to forget the struggles of the past. The publishing houses contributed to the struggle for an independent Republic. I am not sure about the notes, but the stamps also provided funds for individual organisations to help those repressed and imprisoned by the communist regime.

The 40 year period on the Reagan banknote shows the date of PKWN announcement ( yay I was right!) and it's 40th anniversary on 22.7.1984. The reverse side of the note says ' only for communists '.

I found lots of examples of those banknotes, e.g Pope John Paul II, with detailed explanations, but not your second banknote. That one I found only on auction sites, or sites that as soon as a page was opened I got error 404 and the like. Incidentally, do you have more than just the two displayed?

Indeed, underground parody banknotes issued by banned Solidarity as communists weren`t able to track down and arrest all activists. Reagan banknote refers to the economic sanctions that US administration imposed on the communist regime - no more loans!

The second note features Rakowski, a former chief editor of a political magazine, who was a vice Prime Minister at the time. He was hated by most Poles because he officially supported martial law and abused Wałęsa.

Yes. We left the car in Żnin, visited Wenecja and Biskupin and came back.

Dolnosląsk asked me to show trains and I wanted to satisfy that request. The problem is that all trains I could present are narrow gauge from different parts of Poland so it doesn`t make much sense. I have never been into trains, the last time I travelled on a real train was when I was a teenager.
