Hi!
Does Poland recognize international driving license or should I get a Polish one to drive in Poland?

The international license, to the best of my knowledge, isn't an actual license but an endorsement from an insurance agency which allows you to drive in a country for a period of 1 year as long as you are operating a vehicle in a country in which its validity has been ratified.

You still need a valid license, preferably yours.

I'm not sure here youre from Thing. As a Brit living in Poland, I just have to renew my UK licence as and when the photo needs changing (10 years). But if you're from outside the EU, you need your local license and an international licence to drive most places in Europe.

Sorry Foreigner4, but insurance has nothing to do with the IDD - it's enough to rtake yourself and your local licence to an office of your country's authorised issuer and thery'll give you an IDD for a moldest fee - see here the AAA site:

aaa.com/vacation/idpf.html

Wherever you live, i9t wil most likely be one or more of the local motoring organisations.

That's okay johnb121, I think I'll get over it;)
Thanks for the information and the link.

Merged: Driving in Poland on an International Drivers License?

Hi guys,

I am traveling to Poland in a couple of weeks and I plan to see as much of the country as possible. My relatives live in a small country town where there is nothing around for miles. I really want the freedom to explore and not have to rely on public transport, taxis or asking people for lifts.

Does anyone know if an international drivers license permits me to ride a motorcycle or moped?

Thanks in advance :)

If you have an international driver's licence and a national driver's licence with an A1 licence you can drive Motorcycles with a cylinder capacity not exceeding 125 cubic centimetres and a power not exceeding 11 kW; and motor tricycles with a power not exceeding 15.

Which country is your current license with?

To ride motorcycle or moped in Poland with International Driving License, the license must be proper category, check here:

kategoria A

motocyklem,
motocyklem z przyczepą motocyklową o masie nie przekraczającej masy własnej motocykla i 100 kg
pojazdami określonymi dla prawa jazdy kategorii AM,

kategoria A2 (od stycznia 2013 roku)

motocyklem o mocy nieprzekraczającej 35 kW (46,9357KM) i stosunku mocy do masy własnej nieprzekraczającej 0,2 kW/kg,
motocyklem trójkołowym o mocy nieprzekraczającej 15 kW,
pojazdami określonymi dla prawa jazdy kategorii AM,

kategoria A1

motorowerem,
czterokołowcem lekkim,

pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prawo_jazdy_w_Polsce

motocykl - motor
motorower - moped

But if moped has less than 50ccm, then it's enough to be adult:

I heard about that.
Do you even need to know the rules of the road? I mean if you don't have a driver's licence how can anyone check that you know the rules of the road?

Or it's just more like a bicycle?

P.S I understand Poland allows you to use your IDL up to 6 months only. All I want to know is does the IDL cover motorcycles to?

Thanks again.

Awsome thanks so much for your reply and the info. I am in Sydney. I just have a normal "drivers license".

Your IDL does not cover anything without your driver's licence.
If you have an A1 driver's licence you can drive a motorbike.

An IDL can not be used instead of a driver's licence but must accompany your driver's licence (depending on which country your national driver's licence was printed and which country you want to drive in).

Edit*

I am in Sydney. I just have a normal "drivers license".

If you only have a licence for a car, you can only drive a car in Poland (and a moped)
If the police stop you, you must produce your Australian driver's licence and your international driver's licence.

I hope this helps.

Merged: Use of International Driving permit in Poland for a person with India driving License

Hi,

I have a one-year work permit and a visa to work in Poland. I would travel frequently outside of Europe for official purposes for 2 - 4 weeks. I have a international driving permit valid for a year along with my India driving license.

My question is:
Can I use this international driving permit in Poland (for the vehicle category mentioned) for driving a car and is there any time duration on the validity of this International driving permit till the time upto which only I can drive in Poland ?

Thanks for your comments.

You can use it in theory for up to 6 months, after which you are obligated to get a Polish driving license.

Hi Polsyr

Thanks for your reply.

Is there anything important in the words 'in theory' that I should be aware of, while using this for 6 months. Thanks.

Yes. Not every official you may potentially face in Poland is necessarily aware of, or ready to acknowledge the rules.
Bureaucracy, corruption and languages can all be problematic. I never experienced such problems myself but I heard stories.
