you seem to be just emphasising my point, it wont be obvious to them at all what the speed limit is. It may be to you as you seem to read the Polish highway code each evening and drive here regularly but it's not to a stranger. Why they can't have an explicit speed limit sign to remind you at least every few km's is beyond me, would probably help road safety too. Even the signs to signal a town or motorway are not actual speed limit signs, they're pictures - great, more guessing, what a help!

What's not obvious about it? Just remember the golden rule - if there's no speed limit signed after a junction (except in cities - so you must pass a 'city' sign at some point) - the national limit applies. It's straightforward and easy to work out - did you see a speed limit sign after the junction? No? Then the national limit applies.

As for the signs signalling towns - I'd say that passing a sign of a town is much more straightforward than the German example (which is just the name of the place on a yellow sign). There's also no doubt as to where the built-up area ends - a speed limit sign isn't so clear.

I agree that speed limits are usually well posted (even though often without any logic, eg several changes occuring over a few hundred meters) but very often there is no clear indication that the speed limit is over.

There's also no doubt as to where the built-up area ends

. It shouldn't be up to the motorist to guess whether this last shed is part of the village or not.. Why can't Poland just have end of speed limit signs like in other European countries?

But...the junction makes that clear. It's actually good, because it means less sign clutter.

But they do - the city sign with the line through it makes it clear. The same sort of sign is used all over Europe.

Merged: Driving from the UK to Warsaw

I've recently moved to Warsaw for a couple of years with work. In a few weeks I'll return to the UK for a road trip with my sons to bring my MX5 and motor bike to Warsaw. I'm looking at using the ferry to The Netherlands and then a route that takes us through Hanover, Berlin and Poznan, spreading the journey over 3 or 4 days. I'd be really interested to hear from anyone that's done something similar and has any practical advice based on their experiences. Thanks, Arthur.
