Generally only idiots like sea with waves because when the waves are over one meter you are likely to be drown by swimming. And noone likes wind bringing sand of the beach on your face and eyes.

I am not sure if you are right.

Me and censorship? I am not a very frequent guest in here.
I just like reading this page form time to time, because it is a mine of language and knowledge.

I also think that everybody have a right to say what he/she wants.
But I partly agree with Torq, that some posts should be moderated, because they create deceitful picture of Poland.

Perhaps with a little guidance from the very same ppl killing her off now, she WOULD be able to be more positive about the Motherland.

Well, I guess, that killing people off is a normal practise in here MareGaea.

but it works both ways. many posts on PF create a deceitfully good picture of poland as well.

this gets especially frustrating when a common opinion is held by several people, say a group of expats on this forum, yet a large number of posters on PF refuse to hear it and off goes yet another ongoing PF tit for tat style argument.

9 days.

fine, you had great expectations and than you were disappointed, big deal!

Although another disappointment was there was no waves on the sea.

sue it!are serious ?:D

I made my own conclusion behind this and I think it is because of poverty and lack of junk food.

Well, that is extremely silly conclusion.

and my experience was more or less of what I expected.

9 days plus great expectations well, have you been anywhere else in Europe ?
(

not a beautiful country when it comes to flora/fauna, physical landcapes and architecture

you should visit me , I bet you wouldn't had been disappointed :D

This thread is a good laugh!

Some parts of Poland are pretty ugly. Look at the dirty, grey buildings in Warsaw, I was in an ugly area of Gdansk last month. A bit depressing (one of my friends lived there!). And if you don't want to be even more depressed, don't go anywhere near a hospital! Well the three that I have visited looked more like Arkham Asylum.

But there are of course beautiful parts of Poland as well. The Tatry in the winter look amazing.
Some suburbs in Melbourne are pretty bad too. Just go for a walk in Collingwood and see how many needles you step on! Anywhere around housing commission flats look dodgy. All countries have there good and bad parts. Some more than others.

There are waves in Poland, occasionally. Just need the right conditions on the Baltic. It's only wind chop though. Anyone expecting waves in Poland has either no knowledge of how the weather works, failed geography/science or is just ignorant.

Hospitality in Poland is a joke though. The reason McD & KFC were the most courteous is because these companies originated in America.

Anyway, who cares?!?! If you didn't like Poland, don't come back!

Where you even in Poland, or just read about it? eastern Poland has nice forests, Mazury has beautiful lakes, Carpathian Mountains are nice. And by the way it's Gdansk not Danzig, if you were there you'd know that, Gdansk's old town has got to be among the nicest in Europe, Krakow, Wroclaw, i doubt any old town in Australia even compares all you have is beaches. And you seem like a cheapskate, complaining about the price of a ticket.

Someone asked my opinion about England earlier. England is amazing, full of interesting people, places, history, architecture. I'm totally smitten by the beauty of Cotswolds, green rolling hills of Cornwall, Devon and Somerset, beautiful cliffs and breath taking views all around the coasts, impressive museums only rivalled by Louvre and Smithsonian in US. Even the palace of Westminster alone is worth a day's tour. Countless soccer clubs, castles and stately homes, delicious pub meals and of course polite and smiling citizens(just like home), unlike some polish shopkeepers and office workers who sulk their entire miserable life as if the world stinks around them. England is full of natural beauty where as the only place that has natural beauty and its own character in Poland is Zakopane.

That's being said, I'll never forget the generosity, friendliness and kindness of my friends and their families as well as their friends. I had a really good time with them so I will be back!

Things I dislike about England/UK

Tiny homes/rooms/toilet. Their homes are the size of my garage. (And yes we have the world's biggest homes on average)
Police- they stopped me for snapping picture of some Whitehall building.
Too many tiny annoying cars clogging the streets. Although its better than Poland cause they drive on the correct side just like us and there are plenty of automatic cars to hire.

High value of the Pound.
Pathetic transport to Airport (it took longer to get to Stanstead Airport from London than fly from the airport to Poland)
Too many chairty and 1 Pound/ Pawn shops ( signs of a broken country)
Too many foreigners- When we landed at terminal 3 of heathrow Airport, not a single englishman in sight among border officers checking passports.
Those communist style mid-high rise council houses (like in Poland), and hundreds of satellites dishes attached to them like genital warts, how disgusting.
Rain.

there isn't a "correct" side.... it's called right or left side...

The correct side for driving is on the left, that way you have your sword arm free to defend against attacking thieves(otherwise known as Carp snatchers).

I appreciate anyone that takes an effort to post their experinces here - good bad and inbetween. Thank you! I hope more people do.
I usually keep a bare facts diary when traveling. Highly recomended. It's interesting reading it years later.

You would say that because you drive on the wrong side of the road.

what is that ? roads are for carts and merchants, likes of them defend themselves with bows and firearms. Riders can ride anywhere .....

Yes, ok :)

Wanna go somewhere nice? Go to Żywiec. There is a place there called MEGA which overlooks the lake and a lovely mountainous backdrop :) You can drink fresh Żywiec and enjoy some top food too.

Ok, some other comments based merely on 10 or so days in Poland:

- Well it's a country that's still trying to catch up with the West in some aspects (battered appearance of many places, service culture), the other side of the coin is it can be very affordable to us others.

- If and hopeful when you can make a proper contact with local people they may be very nice and devoted to make you feel good. I had one such occasion, met some nice people at a bar one night and one of them called back to me and we had nice dinner together the next day. But it seems you really have to be active to initiate that kind of contact

- most younger people are eager to assist if you ask for directions, etc. even the most beautiful chicks ;)

- People are paying attention to anything that seems unusual to them, you may be stared at if you wear, walk, talk or look different, and some seem to make fun out of it idf they can have laugh at someone else for that kind of silly reason

- Initial impression is that most of Poland is quite the same if you see it thru a train window - fields and flatland with occassional forests, i.e. eventually boring. However, I've not visited the Carpathian or Bielowiecza area, which should offer very fine views if travell guides are to be trusted. Same goes for Mazury.

- food is tasty and great value if perhaps somewhat meat and carbs heavy

-count a generous safety marginal for any schedules, trains and buses may be less exactly in time that you're used to for no obvious reason

From my visit, I agree with this article that Poland is a sh1t 3rd world country. As far as I am concerned the Polish are blonde blue eyed gypsies.

No wonder they behave like gypsies and go around western europe as parasites of the local economies.
Seanus  15 | 19666

Many aren't blonde and blue-eyed. 3rd world? Hardly! Parasites? They contribute to local economies through tax.

first read what is a definition and history of a term before useing it and maybe it will save you from making yourself an idiot again (but to be honest I really doubt something can prevent from that...)

The cities and towns look like the poorest suburb you can find in a city in the west

can't agree with that at all. i'm polish guy who emigrated to uk and yes poland is poor (my wage in poland was not enough for food) country but visually it looks like rich country. The problem is that YOU were travelling by train but you should know that Poland looks completely 10000% better when you travel by car.believe me.

In UK in the city where i live i see a lot poor people, poor dirty red houses and the polish city of koszalin where im from looks EASLY better - much richer than my UK's city. But as i said it is tricky to judge only by looks.

When you travel by plane it looks even better.
