I would like to write an American check to draw money from my U.S. based bank account, is this possible? There is a Citibank in a city near me, however, I don't have an account there. Would they cash a check for me anyway, and if so, what type of fee would they charge me for a $1,000 check? Thanks for any opinion.
Luckily we never seriously got into the primitive system of checks/checking accounts. Just wire your money to here. It will be quicker and costs (most likely) comparable.
I cashed a US check at a Citibank in Prague a couple years back. Took about a week and cost just under $10. Might want to give Citibank here a call and ask. Let us know how it goes.
Merged thread: How much time does it take to cash a USA check at a bank in Poland?
Hi everyone,
I am an american girl living in Poland and for my work in United States, I get paid through US check. I have no experience with polish banks, I heard that it can take between 3 weeks and 3 months to get the money from the check?
Which bank is the most reliable and will help me cash the check in the shortest period of time?
Hi Mary, I know this is an old post; but I wonder if you where able to cash US checks in Poland, since I face the same question now. If you were able, where, how, how much?
If you have a CitiBank account in the US, you can just scan it then send it to yourself using Citi Global Transfers.. As people mentioned it does take a few weeks to months...
Keep in mind CitiBank in the US is "different" than CitiBank in Europe, the systems don't necessarily talk with each other.
Just reviving this one ! I have got a check for 80 dollars from the state treasurer - an old amount of money owed to me by my alma mater :) I will not be back in the US until Spring - is there a way to quickly deposit that in a Polish bank or should I just leave it at the bottom of my suitcase ?
If it's a check for 80 USD, leave it at the bottom of your suitcase. Chances are that if you deposit it with a Polish bank, they will charge you a substantial portion of the face value in fees for processing and clearing it!
