Airline website trick to see flights that go from Poland to the UK in the pound, rather than zloty's?

Hi folks

I remember when somebody was once explaining a method you could use to be able to pay in pounds, even if you were booking a way one flight from Poland to the UK. I think it had something to do with opening the airline website and looking for trips to Poland, then opening it again looking for flights to Poland, or something like that. The problem is I can't remember. Does somebody here know how to do it by any chance, so I can see flights that go from Poland to the UK in the pound, rather than zloty's?

Isn't it possible that you just calculate the cost using a currency exchange rate? What's the point of what you're trying to do?

The point is that you can save a bit of money. I'm sure when your bank has to change the currency themselves, they charge you for it. I know it might not be much, but I would still rather avoid it.

Ok, you're right that it's better that you pay using the payment card's currency rather than having to exchange it into the local currency first. My initial idea would be to visit the local version of the site (if they have one) and try to 'pretend' you are located in that country. Still, not sure if this would work because the big websites may track your location by the IP (in the past it might not be possible). But if anyone knows how to do it these days, it'd be interesting to find out.

They do indeed, but it's likely to be cheaper than Ryanair's currency exchange rate.
Have a read of this which should save you a little bit.
Also if you scroll down to the section " Is there any other way to avoid currency conversion " it explains what you asked in your thread question, but unfortunately it's not possible to do this anymore since Ryanair updated their website.

Ah thanks Pam. Do you think it is just Ryanair who have such bad conversion? Are they known for this, or a lot of airlines like that as well?

Ryanair are known for this as reported in this Guardian article ( from 2010 although still relevant ), but I have no idea if it's standard practice with other airlines. It seems a good moneymaking idea though so i wouldn't be surprised if other airlines have followed suit.

Okay thanks. It looks like trying to just book a return flight is a better idea.

This is not a trick. This is normal, and legal.

Also clean the cache of your computer everytime you research ticket costs ;)

If you are talking about saving money on the currency exchange rate when you book the ticket from Poland to the UK, you need to uncheck the box when you get to the section which says something like " If you do not wish to accept the exchange rate..........". Ryanair's guaranteed exchange rate will be higher than your bank.

Look at this section:

Now, once you are in the payment section, as soon as you select your billing country and type in a valid card number, the balance will automatically be converted to your local currency using Ryanair's own rates. Click on the "more info" to launch a pop-up window. Now make sure to UNCHECK that little checkbox at the bottom:

And you are done! You have just saved 3-6% off your tickets price ;)

I'm talking about being able to book a flight from Poland to the UK in pounds. Not necessarily Ryanair. How do you do this? I know there is a way but I forgot how to do it.

Oh wow, well done on that find. I suppose I'll try to use my own method then.
