Hello everybody! Greetings to a gentle Polish folk! My name is Tony and I have a plan of some great trip. That would be very important for me to hear any of your advices on some questions I have. So here is the thing.... I want to walk from Krakow to Amsterdam only on my feet in about 40 days, it's about 1300 km. I hope to start my way in the period from 15 April to 01 May depends on weather. The main point is that i want to use my own small tent for an overnight stay and the question I have, is it legal in Poland to stay in the countryside in my own tent, outside campings and of course oudside someones property, just near lakes, forests etc? Hotels are too expensive, that would be a great amount of money for a 12-13 days that i'll spend in Poland. The second question is about probable reaction of people if i will ask to set a tent on a territory of their farm or yard for example? After 5 days of walking for about 50 kilometers a day i probably would be tired and there is a posibillity that I couldn't find some absolutely free place (forests, lakes....)...I probably wouldn't have enough power for finding such proper place)))) So i'm gonna need to set a tent on someone's property, of course with the owner permit. So how do you think, will people allow me to stay on their land for a night or probably not? Some extra information about me and my trip: I'm a citizen of Ukraine.... but i'm very nice, clever, good educated guy with a good manners. I'm never gonna do any "bad" things on a foreign land. I really respect people and nature, wherever i go. But still i'm a little concerned about my nationallity.... I surely have a 45 days long Polish business visa , i'm gonna do some businnes things in Krakow for about 2 days and after that i'll start a trip. So, my friends, will be very glad to hear any you thoughts!

Thank you very much and best wishes to you!

By the way. Approximate route of my trip is Krakow - Katowice - Opole - Wroclaw - Glogow - Zielona Gora - Slubice.

I didn't know the answer whether it's legal to camp outside camping until I read your thread and decided to look for the answer in the Internet :)

According to turistic forums in Polish that I've found, it's illegal to camp outside camping sites in Poland, you can get a ticket fine for that. However people seem to do it despite it. As for camping on someone's property you should ask for permission the owner. People say that usually they had no problems with that, of course you need to look decent not like a tramp.

Hotels are too expensive, that would be a great amount of money for a 12-13 days that i'll spend in Poland.

What about hostels? In many you can pay just for a bed if you don't mind sleeping with strangers (actually it won't be the full season, barring the national holidays 1-3 of May, so probably there will be lots of empty rooms).

If you look like a backpacker not a person with suspicious intentions then I don't think you will encounter any troubles.

Thanks. That's a usfull information for me, because i didn't found nothing particular on this subject in the web, just some general things that "you can, but you should avoid some kind of "forest workers" or something" and such stuff. Now i know thats exactly illigal, i'll probably find some other ways. So thank you. About hostels - yes, but i'd like to travel with a tent. Thats a part of my plan. And yes i'm not looking like a tramp of course, so hope there wouldn't be any problem. Thanks again.

Watch out when you try to walk on the Polish streets. It's more likely a car race, not a real street in Poland. :}

I watched the gas station accident. Where the h^ll did that tire come from?????
It's funny how they drive in Poland. Whoever gets there first. But where?

waste of time to view this. not even close. so she walks out onto a farm road, not looking, and someone yells about the oncoming car, she turns, slips in teh mud, moves car passes by with 2 meters to spare. obviously nothing to do with being blond...
