I will be visiting one of my best bros I served with in the Army, that is studying at The Medical University of Lublin for a couple of months then traveling to Russia to visit my friend in Kazan, but will be in Poland for the majority of my travel. I wanted to know from you Poles on here what are some of the "must do" activities? For example, if you were coming to Florida, I would say you would have to visit a theme park, visit the Everglades and see an Alligator, if you're a women go to South Beach Miami and take your top off while sun tanning, if you're a man go to South Beach Miami and view the women taking their tops off while sun tanning, watch the Sunrise on the beach then watch the Sunset in the Everglades, stay away from neighborhoods like Hialeah, Opa Loca, and Liberty City because they are renowned for putting European/Japanese tourist in trunks of cars after robbing them and just leaving them in there.

a must do? - 1. visit Kraków + Wieliczka salt mines 2. vistit Zakopane and the Tatra mountains - a two day trip is preferrable 3. go to Białowieża and see the European Bison
If you're in Lublin, go to Majdanek. If you're in Zamosc, stay an extra night and do a day trip to Belzec. Both of those camps are far more powerful than the Disneyland that Auschwitz has been turned into.
What time of the year will you be visiting Poland?

you are no doubt referring to the Donald Dachau studio that is Auschwitz I found Birkenau to be more powerful than Auschwitz
Majdanek is rather grim and feels cold irrespective of what time of year you visit it but if you are in Lublin in any case, it is just a hop skip and a jump from the centre
It depends where in Poland you will be. I would definitely recommend a trip to Kraków. If you will be near the Baltic I would say visit Sopot and see the "crooked house" and the upside down house in Szymbark. I would also check out the old city old Gdańsk. There are also a few castles to see in the area.

Well that's the thing with Poland, essentially anywhere you go (cept maybe the east but I haven't been there) has got plenty of places to visit and things to do. I don't think the tourism industry is built up so well as it is here in Australia. But! Go anywhere in Poland and you'll be happy. Can't go wrong.
I also recommend 'Hel' at the tip of the peninsula (Must see Schleswig-Holstein). Also Wilczy Szaniec, A.K.A Wolf's Lair, A.K.A Hitler's Bunkers.
There are castles everywhere and anywhere you go, so lots of interesting history.
Even if you just go exploring into the forest, your bound to find something of interest, or at least have an adventure.
P.S. Since a lot of you are saying Krakow how is the public transportation in Poland? I'll be based in Lublin and do plan on leaving Lublin to explore around.

Brotha man I hail from a tropical paradise If I wanted to get butt booty naked in public I could spread my Cadillacs wings and fly fly away to the beach and oil myself with a light coat of baby oil man and glisten all day in sun wearing my birthday suit but I'm on my trip to the mother ship trip man want to go do the old timer thing this tour around Europe see Castles and witness cultural events.

It has to be the Muzeum Wojsko Polskiego in Warsaw, Polish Army museum, simply fantastic collection :) That and the Warsaw Uprising museum,also,surprise surprise in warsaw :)
You need both the weed and the ketchup to eat a Polish pizza :) Unfortunatly Ive only ever had access to ketchup in Poland......those Pannini style things are nice though,the ones in the underground shopping bits in warsaw anyway :)
Yes. a moving place, though a warning to anyone who has served in Western forces and not seen Polish parade drill before....when they slow march they mince like the biggest queens in a pride parade :)
But, its even more moving there when you realise that the huge public square you are in was a Palace untill WW2.
My guide round warsaw was from a Home Army family so I got to see all the "cool" places in Warsaw, the only one I missed was,and I dont know if it is still there, a pre WW2 Armoured Steam Train !
Haha,erm, ahhh,well, Its different, I can say that :) Dont get me wrong,the food can be great, the fresh produce is amazing its just that "Polish " food is, I think its politest to say, a taste you develope over time :)
Pierogi of most fillings is a safe enough bet, Bigos, a nice home made one, just eat and ask about the ingredients later (unless you are a big fan of,cabbage).
But you will find all sorts of foods in Poland. with the imigration to my part of england Ive started buying quite a few Polish made products on my weekly shop.
Now, just to be clear, Im not a fussy eater,but, the sort of "national food/recipies" in Poland are those designed for a country that gets like Siberia in winter ,so lots of fats etc.
Nothing will kill you though, I just dont want to come across to neg' about Polish food as its like all foods,just a matter of tastes :)
Yeah pretty open minded with food. I can eat it all even ate dog once and that is one of the most Un-American things you can do feel bad about the occasion damn near as bad as cannibalism eating mans best friend tasted like crap too. I can't handle Indian food though with all that curry they put in everything. The friend I'm visiting in Lublin he's a 2nd generation American of Indian descent and I went to visit him once for about 10 days in North Carolina and all 10 of them days his family made me eat breakfast and dinner with them no if's and's or but's before I went to sleep there I had to eat a meal and when I woke up there I had to eat a meal. I value that about their culture and appreciate their generosity but Indian food is something I'd have to spend 20 years getting use to.

in any case, I confirm that the military museum in Warsaw is one of the best in the world and you ought to go to the Jewish cemetary, you can walk amongst the thousands of Jewish graves and ponder
the tomb of the unknown soldier does not warrant a special visit
Kazimierz Dolny is a bus ride from Lublin and is a must see you are American, it is full of old buildings, it will blow your mind
