New to Krakow (barbershop, bikeshop and places to visit)

First of all hi everyone!
My name is Kenny, i'm 25 years old and recently moved to Krakow after living in Scotland for 1 year to work for IBM.
I am originally from The Netherlands and so far I am enjoying my stay. If you have any more questions about me I will be glad to answer them.

I do have a couple of questions that I hope you guys/girls can help me out with.

I have been looking for a good barbershop that can do a fade (see picture (it's not me)) mattywoomanagement.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/back-fade-hairc ut-i1.JPG (i can't link yet because it's my first post, hence the removal of http) but so far I haven't been able to find one. I don't mind paying a bit extra as long as they do a good job ;)

I also have been looking for a bike shop that sells mountain bikes for a decent price around the center of Krakow, so far I found two of which one only had very expensive carbon frame mountain bikes (4000 zl and up). Maybe there is anyone who knows a couple more so I can make a price comparison.

I live near the Ikea and was trying to look for a good gym around that area, but as I am not yet very familiar with the area itself and I have to do everything on foot at the moment I couldn't find anything and the few Polish people I asked either didn't understand my question or didn't know.

Besides that I am a big fan of photography and would like to know what places I definitely should visit in Krakow.

Thanks in advance for any question that I can get an answer for.

Kenny

I don't know any gym in that area, but if I did I wouldn't go there.
I assume your basically living in Azory?

You can travel down to Lublanska, get of the bus and walk to Park Wodny they have a nice gym.

For price comparison check polish Ebay - Allegro: tiny.cc/ddo8tw. Shipping prices in Poland are very cheap, thus shopping online popular.

I'm living on Jozefa Chelmonskiego, I have no idea if that is in Azory to be honest hehe.

Thanks, I have seen some nice bikes on there. Do you happen to know if they deliver on Saturdays as well? Or are delivery's only done on weekdays in Poland? As that might be a problem.

Yea that's Azory buddy.
Can I ask why you decided to live there?

Just an FYI, this is in general not a very good/save area. Not that there is anything to worry about, but it is notoriously know for an area of some serious Hooligans.

who they? There are tens of shipping companies in Poland. They do deliver also on Saturday, but choosing that probably costs extra. Why don't you order straight to your work?

To be honest it is a very calm and quiet neighborhood, lot's of family's with little kids living there and the apartment is really nice. And there is security driving around all the time. Besides that it's not that far from my work (30 min walk, and when i get a bike i'll be there in 10 min or less) I don't have to live in the town center. I lived in the town center in Scotland and that was way to noisy. And the apartments I have seen in and around the town center where quite bad and a lot smaller.

Yes the shipping company's. I don't mind paying a bit extra if they can assure it will delivered on a Saturday. About being delivered at my work, i'll have to ask if they will be okay with that.

You have to pay about 3000,00 zł. for mountain/trekking with ALU frame and decent equipment. I.e. Giant + better class Shimano.
In shops a lot depends on salesman. It is hard to advice something. May be you can try in REVOR in M1 Center, Czyżyny.

Hi Kenny,

For buying a bike I would recommend you to search on Allegro website. If you are interested to go to work/ride a bit in the city there's plenty of them, both new and second hand ones (although in good shape).

Depends how much you want to spend but I've bought one (second hand) for 200zl. In some cases you have the option to collect the bike personally if the seller is from Krakow (which will allow you to see if it's in good condition or not before buying it).

Regarding gyms, consider getting the benefit card from IBM and search the available gyms on their website. I can tell that you have one really close to IBM (in AGH university) and another one in Plac Invalidow (you can reach there by bus and tram in 10 minutes).

Cheers

Hi Kenny,

There is so many places to see in Cracow. You said you like making photo, so I recommend Krak's Mound (Kopiec Kraka). It's a kind of hill where is so beautiful view of the city :)

You probably already know about the city center, that's why i suggest to go a little bit farder.
Generally speaking Podgórze district is very nice for pictures. Also walking near the Wisła river is great. I don't know if you are interested in our history. If yes, we have around 300 churches, most of them are beautiful.

After walking, making pics pop in to the Tygiel Pub - it's a niche local, but it's in on the Royal Road. I like to spend time in this place, maybe you will see me there? :)

Take care,
Gosia
