Since when does Lublin have an airport capable or handling larger aircraft? I thought it was more so Cessna like planes.

Rest in peace everyone :-), all those Lubliners who had wanted are already in Dublin, London or in other UK/IRL locations. This connexion will just facilitate transportation and Warsaw airport will suffer as a result (not like I care). And I doubt that Lublin will draw huge crowds from the Isles, it's just too quaint.

Not really, those days are more or less over. The "ruined" comment refers to Western tourists full stop - some of us like the charm of Lublin for not having them around.

Then again, if you weren't such high and mighty Polonia, you'd know that Lublin needs all the tourists it can get.

I suppose one would need to actually go to Lublin and see the ruined buildings littering the beautiful old town to realise that the city does actually need the kind of investment that tourism brings. But since when have Polonia let knowing nothing about Poland stop them from telling us what should happen in our country?

It could actually help Lublin considerably in the long run - although the Old Town is charming, you only need to take a look at the suburbs to see a city that is desperate for any sort of inward investment. I took a walk from the centre to the train station, and well - you can see that tourist cash is needed.

Then again, Polonia do know best. Best when it comes to looking down on Poland, that is.

I can't see Lublin ever becoming a tourist destination for westerners. Not much to offer in comparison to other European cities. The flight will be full of eastern Poles coming home for holidays. In relation to investment, Lublin needs a road system, out.

The old town is lovely, the region is superb (and Lublin is the ideal gateway to it), the beer is stunning, the people are friendly, life is cheap. And Majdanek draws a certain type of tourist too.


The one being built towards Zamosc looks like it'll be a winner. And the one to Warsaw isn't too far off (what is it scheduled for, 2014?)

Wizz Air also will fly from Lublin - to Luton I believe.

I have to agree with Harry, Lublin might actually attract an older tourist, middle aged couples, which might not sound exciting but could bring money into the area! Foreign companies could also see the value in Lublin, and with 5 universities, a large pool of well educated students to choose from!

a question for the Brits- why do Brits go completely apeshit when on a stag week end? I have never seen anything like it. We do similar in Canada, a bit more moderate and respectable fun, but nothing like what I have seen in the old town of Prague, Bratislava and Krakow.

A brother of mine recently stayed at a hotel in Chester, in the UK, and was very pleasantly surprised that a beer cost him only 2.50GBP. He said that in, e.g. a trendy London pub you can pay as much as 5.00GBP for a pint of Stella Artois.

Another would be that Polish beer is 30% stronger than British beer (British tends to be about 4.5% abv, while Polish stuff is about 6%) and that British shots are 25ml while Polish shots are 40ml (or 50ml in some places), so even those who want to drink moderately will be consuming a third more alcohol than they think they are.

Yes, and a bit more. Brits are fundamentally one of the most reserved and self conscious people on earth, and they need to drink to loose their inhibitions. It's not a question of lower prices/greater quantities of alcohol in Poland, you see the same antics all over the UK

If i were Polish i would be more worried about all those African sex tourists.

So let's not make a big issue about this problem, better focus on the real threats facing Poland: multiculturalism.
