Indian or Mexican food in Warsaw.

Hi,I will be in warsaw for 3 weeks any good places to eat Indian or Mexican food???fairly decent not expensive?

Namaste has cracking Indian food at very reasonable prices, less than 20zl for a main course!

3 weeks is a long time to be on a straight diet of Pierogi and Bigos.

Actually no, not a single one of either type. Although why anybody should expect a backwater Polish town of less than 40,000 inhabitants to have either is quite beyond me.

I've been to Sanok. It's a rather pretty little place but it most certainly does not have an Indian restaurant or a Mexican restaurant. And given that it's a 7+ hour drive from Warsaw, there is very little point in recommending somebody who will be in Warsaw for three weeks goes there for a meal of any description.

I have tried some of the Mexican restaurants in Warsaw and I can assure you Tortilla Factory is the closest thing to Authentic Mexican food. I lived in Arizona and California for part of my life and have made countless trips to Mexico. I consider myself a connoisseur of Mexican food from both above and below the border. Tortilla factory definitely gets two thumbs up. I think the key is the freshly made tortillas made in-house. Prices are very reasonable in comparison to the other Mexi-joints in Warsaw. It is also a very popular place for locals and expats to mingle and get warmed up before hitting the town

I second Tortilla Factory....overpriced like everything in Warsaw but the food is good and as close to US style tex mex as you will find. Of course I think it's nothing like real Mexican food but it's still tasty and I like US style tex mex anyway.

BTW for Indian food avoid Tandoor Palace and Maharaja both on Marszalkowska...got sick there myself twice and have known several people with the same experience. The owner's were jerks to their staff as well....yelling and belittling them in front of customers. I was recommended Tandoor Palace by some Brits from some curry club and I would punch them in the noses if I ever saw them again, they must have gotten a commission. Be warned your health is at risk.

Consider enjoying Polish local food. Live dangerously, :). Last year, I visited my hometown in Poland. I was disappointed and pissed off. I found many restaurants serving rotisserie chicken, pizza, shishka-bab, etc. and only one restaurant serving Polish food. The restaurant is located near the train station. Unbelievable! In the US, I can have tacos, pizza, etc. anytime and anywhere. But where I live, there are no Polish restaurants.

I agree. They used to be OK but the standards have really slipped. Last time I went there the food was dire. The 'Curry Club' seem to go there out of a combination of habit and location.


This one always used to be my preferred choice - some very good food. Maybe it's changed since I was last there. Lately I've been going to Arti instead.

Arti, on al. Jerozolimskie between pl. Zawiszy and pl. Starynkiewicza is good - authentic food, very nice service. The little pots that they serve food in can be irritating, but it tastes good. I also like the small branch of Namaste on Nowogrodzka, the fact that it's hard to get a table can only be a good sign.

Buddha Bar on Nowy Swiat looks interesting - has anyone been there?

For Mexican, there aren't many choices. The Tortilla Factory is good (though they sometimes have very loud music). There's a nice place on al. Ujazdowskie, but expensive and very variable.

I know that this restaurant was badly criticized by on of the posters but if you like Indian food the Tandoor Palace is a very popular Indian restaurant . A lot of food critics and locals claim it offers the finest Indian cuisine, we advise you to try and find out for yourselves and we doubt you’ll be disappointed!. It’s a very accommodating restaurant, but large all male groups should make suitable reservations. The restaurant is also known for its regular comedy evenings, stand ups and great entertainers, which will be a bonus to your Warsaw breaks.

It used to be great until about three years ago, but then it really went down. The atmosphere's nice, but the food is tragic.

You must be related to or on the take for that scumbag owner or Tandoor Palace. He treats his staff like garbage and unless you are paying him money is a real b@stard. I think the medical records of myself and a few others would beg to differ that it is a quality place. At your own risk.

Agreed Jonni they ride the laurels of some award they got like 50 years ago. The food sucks. I gave it several chances and getting ill off of it twice is enough.

I got ill too, after my last visit there, my guest also. A shame, because it used to be nice, and it was my friend's first experience of Indian food.

For Indian food, it's a must to visit the Buddha restaurant in warsaw, I was staying in Sheraton hotel during my holidays and was wondering where to have some good Indian food and was just walking along Nowyswiat street, and saw this restaurant "Buddha" I walked in and was surprised to see the beautiful decor. A beautiful black hair lady was there to greet me with a very warm welcome .I was asked my preference of seating with smoking options.I selected some veggie starters, and main course, all were fantastic, great taste and good value for the money.

I don't get it - why do so many restaurants (and pubs) in Poland seem to think that loud music is an essential? No-one seems to want it, yet they still do it...why?! It's a great mystery to me - as is the great way that you can offer to make a reservation for 20+ people on condition that they turn the music down to background level - and many of them say no!


I was there in the summer. It's an absolutely charming place, it's got some rather good pubs (including a place that could easily be any proper boozer in London) - but it definitely doesn't have anything in the way of Italian or Mexican restaurants.. unless you count kebab shops :/

Buddha is OK but it's not as good as Arti or La Bono and nowhere near as good as Namaste.

for me Blue Cactus is the best place in town for Mexican food but it's not cheap, burrito is 44zl, Corona 14zl etc

I find it's a bit hit or miss, with misses being more common than hits. It is also exceedingly family friendly, which is a real pain in the arse when what you really fancy is a large jug of hangover bloody mary and a lazy sunday afternoon.

This one may be worth a try-----El Popo- has authentic Mexican food where you can drink lots of Tequila .You can enjoy dishes of fajita and garlic prawns. It's popular among the younger crowd. Lot's of hot Latin music.

Or lard and vodka!

Here's an idea: why don't you try only recommending restaurants which you have actually been to?

I think Indian food Buddha is very nice, definitely the best curries in that area, cooked by real experts.

The teaching handbook says NOT to criticise your new country of abode - but as we are seasoned taxpayers methinks we should sneer wherever we are faced with this appalling affront.

Unless it's tastefully done music and to background hum levels, at the staff's first refusal to down the blighter (usually that old pratt radio RMF), I simply get the family reunited with their coats pronto and insist that we have it away on our toes.

We went a few weeks ago. It was alright but definitely on the mild side, even after I specifically asked for spicy. Some reason it just tasted bland but the service was great and that is always a perk in my opinion for Warsaw! Beautiful restaurant and if you're homesick for a Starbucks there is one right now the road. But Coffee Heaven is better (a once Starbuck addict too!)

We've tried Tandoor Palace and Maharaja. Both a few times and we never had good luck. The last time Tandoor was the best we've had, but holy spicy and once again I love the spicy part but this was overkill. I was only able to eat a few bites before I gave up, even after it was mixed with some yogurt and rice. I wanted to like it because it's close to the embassy and the walk back is nice after Indian! I'd probably give Tandoor Palace another try on a whim before Maharaja's though.

I'm going to have to try Arti, La Bono and Namaste. Because honestly I have just about given up on Indian food here and it has definitely become one of my favorites!!!!

Now.. mexican... I'm a snob when it comes to Mexican food as it's my absolute favorite cuisine and I was spoiled for three years living in San Diego with the best mexican food EVER! Anyway...Tortilla factory IMO and I see it is of the minority, but it is crap. Blue Cactus is definitely the closest I've found to what I consider Mexican flavors. (I'm basing this off San Diego Mexican style/flavors though) It is pricey though and the service is hit or miss. I know it's the American in me but I almost rather pay for the over priced food at Hard Rock for the service than to deal with the lack of service we get at a lot of other places.

Now don't bash me on the service comment. I see that Americans definitely have a different spin on their food service for sit down restaurants and that's okay. I'm getting better and more accustomed but it's taking time.

Now.. I'll go try and google for the above mentioned Indian restaurants but addresses would be great! Thank you!
