Hitchhiking from Warsaw to Berlin via Poznan and Frankfurt (Oder)

Hi guys,

Tomorrow I wanted to hitchhike from Warsaw to Berlin via Poznan and Frankfurt (Oder) since this seems to be the best way to go.

I never hitchhiked in Poland and very rarely in general so I'm asking for some advice.

Where should I position myself in Warsaw?

What's the best time for it? Already tonight, tomorrow in the early morning or tomorrow midday?

What should be written on my signpost?

What else should I'm aware of?

Thanks :)

Really. I'm not surprised though, nowadays.

Back in the PRL, you could pick up a book of coupons for hitchhikers at every town hall, give a coupon to each driver and the ones who picked up the most passengers got a prize.

What? It's against the law in Poland?

I wasn't aware of that since I was told that this is a quite popular way of travelling in Poland.

I would only pick up old ladies and women and children, my husbands friends and family went crazy at me for picking up people on the road side so I don't know how easy it would be to get a lift and I would say that they are hopping for some petrol money as well. If thats the case the busess are cheap is there no way you can take the bus.

Hi guys,

It turned out to work very well. I caught a TIR driver who went to Poznan. Truck driver may always be good to catch since they often seek some communication and don't pay the petrol themselves.

Personally I recommend to somehow leave Warsaw first before trying to hitchhike. A good place is Skierniewice which is pretty close to the motorway. This is were I ended up and caught up the driver.

Bests
