Foreign car in Warsaw - targeted by thieves/vandals?

Hi all

I'll be heading to Warsaw in the Summer, hopefully work permitting staying for a while, and wondered how secure an English car would be. I'v heard that foreign cars can be targeted by thieves/vandals. Does anyome know this to be the case or is it just rumours??

Im sure Warsaw, like everywhere else, has its safer districts but just wanted a overall view from someone who has a foreign car or knows someone who has.

Thanks

I wouldn't worry about it - Poles are forever driving GB-plated cars over here, and it's quite normal to see a few around. If it's targetted by thieves, then it'll be because the car is desirable, not because of the plates - although RHD cars can't be registered here anyway.

If the car is worth something, park it in some guarded parking overnight - spaces are cheap to rent.

There are a couple of UK registered cars that park near my flat, have never seen either of them vandalised.

If you change your mind, parking spaces in central-ish apartment complexes go for about 250zl to 300zl per month.

Don't worry. First of all you will be considered as Pole on holiday escaped from steaks factory headind to mum for another cargo of pierogi.

You could be in danger if you car is:
1. Brand new Japanese car - no matter what class.
2. F+ segment German car.
That's all.

hmm, I didn't know that. I heard only about Toyota Yaris a couple of years ago. Have our boys changed their favourites?

Yes, since millenium maybe. I've seen myself 3 guys stealing a brand new Toyota Corola at my place. I've reported it to police. Finally the car was found 300m away. Anyway RHD is less risk.

From another topic:

car rental in Warsaw

can some one tell me where i can rent a car for 2 days in poland warsaw
a reliable company and cheap. for this weekend

Read a report "Just returned from Poland-------". We rented a small Nissan Micra and loved it. Rented fron National Car Rental and picked it up at the Warsaw airport. Brought my GPS with East Europe map and it was a life saver.

Parts for Japanese cars tend to be more expensive (import duties) and so there's more money to be made in stealing and chopping Japanese cars than in other models.
