Foreign beers in Krakow

Does anyone know of a shop in Krakow that has a wide range of foreign beers (i'm talking more the hard-to-get specialty stuff, more than anything else)? I've been here for a year and a half and have exhausted the selection they have at Alma (and hell, I've had pretty much all polish beers I can get my hands on).

Also, does anyone know where I can find Ciechan Miodowy in Krakow also (sold in bottles, not at a bar?) Cheers.

You might try Bomi, ul. Zakopiańska 105, 30-418 Kraków.

I never been to the one in Kraków but I did visit the one in Katowice several times at it has got a wide range of foreign goods ( in comparison to other supermarkets)

I know you are looking for shops but in case anyone is looking for a great bar to go to heed the following:

House of Beer on Sw. Tomasza. They have approximately 70 bottled beers from all over (Polska, Czech, Slovakia, Ukraine, Germany, etc) and 5 beers on tap with Zywiec/Tyskie no where to be found. Great long bar and then also have comfortable sofas to relax on. Great atmosphere, great beer, and great prices (5-8zl for 90% of the beers)

Try this one: mapy.google.pl/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=pl&geocode=&q=%C5%9Bwiat+alkoholi&sll=50.08269,19.97412&sspn=0.053093,0.295258&ie=UTF8&hq=%C5%9Bwiat+alkoholi&hnear=&ll=50.060996,19.944638&spn=0.00166,0.009227&z=17&iwloc=D

Are you looking for some particular one or just trying different ones?
I often visited this one, now it's too far for me: Kraków, Długa 74, Świat Piwa i Alkoholi Baryłeczka

At least in Warsaw, Ciechan is sold in Carrefour. Bomi have an excellent selection of imported beer from all corners of the planet but it is not cheap. Piotr i Pawel have a fairly good selection too.

As for Polish beer, have you looked hard? There is some fabulous beer from the smaller Polish breweries which is well worth tracking down. Have you tried Zwierzyniec (from the Perla brewery in Lublin)? Zywe (from the Amber brewery near Gdansk)? Swieze (from the Kormoran brewery in Olszytn)? Mazowieckie (from the Konstancin brewery near Warsaw)?

also some fresh, not pasteurised beers from Browar Witnica and Smocza Glowa (recently changed the name into something similar, Czarny Smok, I think) from local brewery in Krakow. There are some places you can enjoy them from the tap.

Carrefour Galeria Krakowska has the beer you are looking for, also you can buy Staropramen in bottles at the same place

staropramen.com

There is a bar called Kathedral on the lower part of ul poselska that has a very large selection of beers.

Zalj, there as some of the others have mentioned there are some very good regional Polish beers, at a snip of the price of foreign beers.

Staropramen

It's very nice, but my choice would be Starobrno over this one.

Polish beer is the best, well Czech beer is even better. Czechs seem to know a bit more about art of brewing and - what's important -serving and beer drinking culture.

I'm off there next month to check out that very thing! Strangely we seem to be visiting only cities where famous beer comes from, can't imagine how that happened.

Indeed: they let people smoke in pubs.

Oh, come on, it's not this thread, hahahah! I meant that I've never seen such a terrible manner of serving beer - nowhere in Czech rep. have I seen warm beer, grzaniec. Like it or not, beer isn't supposed to be heated. Wine - maybe. Beer must stay cool even in Winter.

Harry, are you going to Brno maybe?

Harry, are you going to Brno maybe?

Sadly not (but I'll keep an eye out for Starobrno). It's Prague for the Staropramen, then Cesky Krumlov for the Eggenberg, Ceske Budejovice for the Budweiser and Plzen for the Pilsener Urquell. Plus lots of other brews as well I expect.

Starobrno is sold in pretty much every supermarket in CZ. They're starting to expand the pubs that they're in (the cloggies are throwing at all the pub owners that already sell Krusovice...which is delicious).

Pilsener Urquell.

Is it just me, or is the version sold in Poland utter garbage?

I had one in Harrachov - and I could swear that it was completely different. Not bitter at all, unlike in Poland.

Thing is that Pilsner Urquell is supposed to taste a bit bitter (bit more than some beers). Maybe it has something to do with the fact it is the only basic [meaning alkaline] beer. That's why it is very good for people with stomack problems.

Merged: Where to find Old Speckled ale beer in Cracow/Krakow ?

I do love to drink an English ale from time to time -- though I'm no Brit -- and my favourite is the Old Speckled Hen. Are English ales generally sold in Poland? Can I found Old Speckled in Cracow (looked in Auchan, Carrefour, Zabka and Lewiatan but couldn't find any).

Thanks
