Exchanging £5000 at a Kantor in Bydgoszcz

Hello.

I have a wedding in Bydgoszcz next year, and will need to exchange £5000 (GBP) in cash at a Kantor in Bydgoszcz.

What will I need to do? Are there any legal requirements I'd need to fulfill?

In the UK, you can't exchange over a certain amount without proof of identity, etc. What will I need to bring?

Would it be best to exchange it in parts? Such as £2500 next time I'm there, then £2500 the time after?

Thank you!

I've exchanged as much as $1000 and no one asked me any questions. I suggest you split that amount in 4-5 and have it exchanged. ~24000zl is a lot !

But I won't be in Bydgoszcz until just before the wedding!

The wedding is on July 1st... Should I just bring all my cash and pop around the Kantors and change them a bit at each?

I would first find nearest the Kantors and ask them what rate they would offer you, tell them how much you have. They may not have that much money in their stock if you go on speck. I always get a better rate when I exchange a larger amount of sterling. Compare the rates offered with at least 3 Kantors.

Just call them on a phone in advance.

No legal formalities. You'll get the best rate for the largest sum.

Honestly I'd open a Polish bank account in GBP, stick the money in that and then use Alior Kantor online for the exchange. Probably a better rate and no need to walk round with tens of thousands in your pocket.

I walked into a kantor in Krakow and exchanged £13,000. No problem.

But Bydgoszcz is not Krakow. My suggestion of going round or someone ringing up to get best rates still stands.

Yup. The only problem may be the rate next year.
