City break in Gdansk 24th-27th January 2013

Me and my girlfriend are visiting Gdansk 24th - 27th Jan. It's all a big adventure, never been to Poland and know little more than what Wikipedia tells me about Gdansk. Will be staying in Hotel Gdansk.

Has anyone got any good tips for what to do?

I quite like decent, genuine tours by locals (as opposed to commercialised crap) if anyone knows of some? We are also both very keen on WW2 history....

Is there any events on in Gdansk that weekend? Or perhaps any shows/gigs/concerts or anything else interesting we could go to?

Also, does anyone have any recommendations for good places to eat and drink?

Any help is much appreciated.

Thank you.

James

I would recommend Brovarnia Gdansk and Balzac for the places to have dinner. If you are looking for places to go out in the evening, Sopot is the place for pubs and bars. Train is easy and cheap way to get there from Gdansk.

Sure. There are lots of good places for both, but before I give you a laundry list of names, please tell us what you're looking for. What kind of food, what sort of atmosphere you like when you're out drinking, etc. You don't have to go to Sopot for those unless you just want to see the place.

WWII history? There's none in Gdansk. :) Check out the Gdansk History Museum on ul. Długa in the Main Town Hall and don't miss the photos on either side of the Golden Gate as you continue your stroll up the street.

When you arrive in your hotel, pick up a free copy of Gdansk in your pocket and spend some time reading it, or you can visit their web site at inyourpocket.com

If you have more questions, post them here or send me a pm. Hope this helps.
