Hi All

I am struggling with search of a car rental company which would let me to cross PL/RUS border.
We have in flight to Gdansk on Saturday and out flight from Gdansk on Sunday. And between I need to get to Kaliningrad. I thought about renting a car, but having called to all big and a couple of small car rental companies I know that they don't let their cars to cross the border.

Maybe somebody knows rental company that will let me do it?

Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks

It's not going to happen. Kaliningrad is an exceptionally high risk for car theft in their eyes, and until very recently, insurance was also a problem. I don't think there's a single insurer in Poland that will cover trips to RU on a fully comprehensive policy, for instance.

There are daily buses to Kaliningrad - would that suit you?

Yes, you need a visa and you have to get it in advance now.

Hi! I seriously doubt that you can hire a car in Gdansk and take it to Kaliningrad. Obviously you need a visa too and I know that all Rusian visas are hard to get and costly. You'd better forget about the idea to drive to Russia and make other plans for the week-end ;)

Agreed. Better to go there by public transport. Car hire companies don't like cross-border hire, and certainly not going from the EU to Russia.

Do Russian authorities deliver tourist visas in a few minutes at the border? I doubt it.

If the OP were born in Trojmiasto (which he obviously wasn't) he wouldn't need a visa. This does beg the question - why go to Kalinigrad at all (unless it's a holiday romance of course)?

Most of the population are engaged in trying to get visas to go in the opposite direction, and who can blame them?

They do, but only at two border crossings and only for 72 hour periods.

Why they don't simply abolish visas for Kaliningrad is entirely beyond me. Russia could do very well out of tourism if they did.

They used to give temporary visas on the hydrofoil however I think they stopped that a few years ago.

Guys, thank you for your answers.
I am Russian myself - so I have a valid Russian passport.
I decided to hire a transfer as no car rental company agreed to provide me with car.
And the reason for Kaliningrad is wedding of our friends + as a Russian I have always been interested in this place because of it stand alone place.
