Camping holiday - Mazurian lakes and Bieszczady mountains

I come from a very small country where we do not have any mountains, lakes or rivers. Me and my husband will be moving to Poland soon and he has been mentioning all the great camping trips we're going to take in the Mazurian lakes and on the Bieszczady mountains. I have never been on a similar trip and have never gone next to a lake or ontop of a mountain so I cannot comprehend what we would do all the time and how we would enjoy ourselves. My idea of a holiday is going to some famous town and spend a week looking at the tourist attractions.

Could someone who has been on these kind of trips please desribe his experience, what is so great about these holidays and how we would enjoy ourselves?

Please do not get me wrong, I am really excited and looking forward to discovering a new experience, however I want to know ehst I should expect to be able to make the most of it.

My wife and I were in the Bieszczady mountains for the May holiday. It was absolutely gorgeous. We stayed at a trout farm for 100 PLN/night and ate like Lord's bastards. There was a blues festival on at a nearby inn, where we drank bottles of wine for 50PLN and shared a table with some famous old rockers (inc.drummer from Dzem). Camping is all well and good if you're the hardy type and don't mind sleeping on the ground after a day's hiking, but I'd recommend staying in a hotel or guesthouse. You could, of course, combine the two.

That sounds wonderful! And how did you spend your days? Where did you go hiking? Did you follow some routes?

We were there for only three days so we didn't do much exploring, just a long hike on the second day. This site gives more information on the region than I ever could.

Looks very decent. Am going down that way myself this summer. Some bright spark has built a large four-star resort in an isolated spot which used to be home to the mountain holiday retreat of the commie elite. I stay a few years ago and it was a superb laugh. Perhaps it'll even be finished by the time we get there: arlamow.pl/?scroll=0
