Are there any llamas in this zoo?

There's a zoo near where I live but it's only got a dog in it. It's a shitzu.

Hi all,

I'll keep my eye on this thread because I'll also be in Wroclaw at the end of July (26-31), actually for the FIBA U18 Mens European Basketball C'Ship (just as a fan, though:))

I'd be intersted in possibly meeting up with some of you while there!

Cheers,

or rent a city bike. They just started using it in Wroclaw.

With a stupid system - you need the Wroclaw UrbanCard to do it.

or rent a city bike. They just started using it in Wroclaw. Here is a map of stations:

I'm not sure if this works at all? The station at the Politechnika Wrocławska was always empty and I can remember Wrocław saying the system does not work. If that worked, I wouldn't be fighting to park my car in the University campus.

krasnale.pl/mapa-google

a map showing where to find the little people in wroclaw. give it a couple of seconds to load.

these little people are spread all over wroclaw and i think it would be very difficult to see them all in a couple of days.

they seem to breed like rabbits too. seventy-five of them at the last count.

the website has info in Polish and English.

To all that useful info above I would add:
- there is possibility of renting a canoe or boat or motorboat in couple of places - nice thing to do in the sunny weather (conoeing into Oława river just after Grunwaldzki bridge is good choice, because it is surprisingly clean river considering it lies in the middle of a big town), unfortunately Oława is not accessible by anything but canoe. Beside that there are also bigger tourist ships crusing on the Odra river

- as for the fountain near Hala Stulecia - every weekend on some hours there are special shows - try to get there to see one of that. It is good to be about an hour before that and take a comfortable place at the restaurant in front of fountain (there is surprisingly small amount of moskitos this year, but repellent can be handy),

- there are a few towers worth to climb on, like cathedral tower, or S.Elizabeth church tower.

PS. if you need some professional city guide, feel free to pm me, I know some of them

No - it's in quite a rubbish location in terms of transport. There's a bus, but ...well. Wroclaw MPK buses aren't the best ;)

- as for the fountain near Hala Stulecia - every weekend on some hours there are special shows

I saw a rather creepy and tasteless JPII show there. :(

I didn't but there is couple of those special ones, here is a list (only in Polish though): wroclawskafontanna.pl/term.pdf

Beauty and beast was quite ok. I've heard that Microcosm is good.

Oops, due to unexpected expenses at the end of June, we won`t go on a seperate trip to Wrocław. Instead, we will have a few days` stopover in Gdańsk on the way to the seaside in Hel where we usually spend a part of summer.

Now I am checking museums, monuments, playgrounds, car parks and Red Army cemeteries in Gdańsk. :):):):)

See you in this thread next year.

Oops, a sudden change of plans. The weather is going to be dull at the seaside for the next few days, so we are going to Wrocław after all. I spent 3 hours today collecting info on museums, historical monuments, playgrounds, best views, gardens, cemeteries, churches, parks, free parking zones, statues, zoos, etc.

i think it's tanks at the russian war memorial not canons. edit: it's both.

Yes, it is both. It looks like a beautiful, well-designed cemetery.

Bad news for you, the fountain at Centennial Hall was broken...
Good news, official site claims things are back to normal, but there can be some longer maintenance pauses...

PS. those two sites can be helpful:

^^
whatever the truth is, from tourist point of view important things are:
is it nice? is it open during my stay?
Yes and probably yes.

Uuf, we have just come back from a 5 day trip to Wrocław. We managed to complete about 88% of our original plans - the weather has been really nasty.

I took 2400 photos, most will be photobucketed sooner or later, I am going to start processing them today.

The short comment: Certainly, I wouldn`t trade my home town for Wrocław if I decided to move. Despite a few pearls here and there, it is as horrible as Krakow. :):):):)

It is good to be home at last where my favourite home-made whisky has been wating for me.

PS. We took an accidental tourist from Wrocław - a fly. Free ride! I hope he doesn`t demand being taken back in a week or so after doing all the sighseeing of Krakow`s rubbish bins and doggy doos on the pavements. Maybe next year.

Can't wait to see the pics...

But when you see my gorgeous pics, you won`t want to see those places in real... :(:(:(:(

So what were your highlights?

The places mentioned in this thread plus a few museums and Gothic churches.

PS. I think I should start a new thread about my 2011 vacation to show all those photos. :):):)

delphiandomine:
Aquapark - 99zl for the family.
Kids are 12/15. I am hoping to indoctrinate them with something a little more cultural / historic. I can splash them with a hose when I get home! ;-)

Don`t treat the Aqua Park so lightly - kids will have fun. :):):)

Everybody interested in the history of Wrocław should visit this site - a lot of unique pictures and descriptions.

You could end up saving me a fortune, could afford more beer at some local rynek! But seriously, please do. It might serve to boost tourism in Wrocław.

Right after you post the pics here... Please

Maybe you are right. I think you are whetting my appetite for the water park.

You really caught the worst few days... I hope you found some nice pubs to hide ;)

You really caught the worst few days...

Yes, but it was the same throughout Poland. That is why I prefered visiting Wrocław to going the the seaside. :):):):)

I hope you found some nice pubs to hide ;)

I am not a pub goer on trips. I try not to drink alcohol in alien places.

Actually, I am not a pub goer at all. :):):)

Why do you say that? I'm going this September.

Krakow and Wrocław share a few negative characteristics: they are big, dirty, chaotic, polluted and ugly cities, despite a few pearls here and there.

Ugly cities? Krakow has a preserved old town + the Wawel?! That's more than "a few pearls here and there". But it's mostly true for Wroclaw.
pawian  221 | 25821

That's more than "a few pearls here and there".

Compared to the city`s size, it is still a few. :):):)

But it's mostly true for Wroclaw.

I don`t agree. Krakow has more pearls than Wrocław. :):):)

Well, that's also true for Paris and London... ;)

I don`t agree. Krakow has more pearls than Wrocław. :):):)

I agreed that Wroclaw is a "big, dirty, chaotic, polluted and ugly city, despite a few pearls here and there". People visiting Wroclaw should consider a day trip to Goerlitz on the German-Polish border to see how Silesian towns once looked.

I can recommend to:

visit the Aqua Park, especially on a sunny day, because its outside part is even bigger than the inside. But it was funny to swim in the rain, too.

The Panorama of the battle at Racławice:

Next step is the National Museum, a must because it is close nearby, the admission is free if you visit Panorama and show the ticket, and it displays fine art of renowned Polish artists. Better to buy an English guidebook or whatever, though.

You might go inside the Town Hall, which is a paid museum, for its amazing Gothic architectonic design and details.

and you will run into some event. We saw vintage cars picninc:

Climb the tower of the Garnizonowy Church

to get a view of the city

But don`t smear those silly things on it, like other forum members:

You might think over hiring this tourist vehicle

Visit one of the Gothic churches, e.g., this one, close to the Square. There are a few in Wrocław.

or this one, close to Chrobry Monument:

Probably you will see some when you go to Ostrów Tumski, which we didn`t visit due to horrible weather.

The Fountain next to the Centennial Hall - not bad. Probably better at night when they put on lights in it.

Natural History Museum is average and only in Polish. We learnt a few things though.

The Entographic Museum is for free with your Panorama ticket

Last but not least one:

And History Museum is a must. It is in English too and cleverly shows the history of the city from the Middle Ages, as well as elegant bourgeoisis interiors and some ancient and modern art.

Remember, museums are closed on Monday and sometimes Tuesday too.

We didn`t fulfill our plans because of the elements so there are more things which are worth seeing in Wrocław. We will see them next year and I will finish my presentation then.

Or looks like I haven`t posted the photos of exhibits you are talking about. :):):)

Which ones do you mean?
