Hi all
I'm currently in Poland and would like to apply for English filology now.

But the problem is where I want to apply (warsaw or wroclaw uni) recrutations are closed ( deadline was july) . What can be done at this moment ? Is there any chance that I can get acceptance letter? BTW I'm an eu citizen who has been living in Poland for 3 years

Niklas,

Your first language is clearly not English, possibly German, and so am having some difficulties understanding what it is you are driving at:-) As a native English speaker, I've never run across the word 'recrutation", nor, would I imagine, has anyone else. A misspelling perhaps? More than likely. My guess is that you were attempting to write the word "recruitment", yes?

One more thing. If you intend to study a subject (particularly in a language other than your mother tongue, or in it as wellLOL), at least know how to write it correctly! P-H-I-L-O-L-O-G-Y.

Lots of luck,

It's because of my mobile phone. I cannot select appropriate words when I text something. Yeah sure I'm not a native speaker. I'm a Greek citizen.

Think you meant "registration" (Einschreibung). Then again, "orientation"?? Latin derived words in English confound even native speakers, leading often to some hilarious malaprops or unintentionally re-invented neologisms-))

Do you speak any Polish yet? Might be kinda tough to understand a lecture given in English by a professor with a foreign accent themselves.

Well, guess you'll manage somehow!

BTW I'm well aware of what I'm doing no need to think about these details. As I mentioned above my question is where my i apply for English philology now. I have called few universities and they said me that it depends on the course what you would like to study.I do not want to study at private universities.

The Polish academics at my uni all speak English very clearly. It's something they pay a lot of attention to.
Niklas, you might find unis which have places due to students getting sick or changing their minds. Some places are struggling to find students. Keep trying.

Thanks for the quick answer Roger5.
Yes I have gotten touch with the Dean offices. Their answer were the same that it's late now. But I would like to know it depends on what exactly The faculty or university? A friend of mine told me that they should have free places for that course. If the recruitment has been closed would it be possible to apply? I really would like to know the act. Thanks

Become a member and PM me. I might be able to help if you are willing to go to another uni.

Think you meant "registration"

No. The Polish term is rekrutacja, which makes it sound like recruitment but the meaning is actually more like 'application period'. That's the deadline he missed.

There is a process of odwoĊ‚anie (appeal) but that's for people who applied in time and failed to get in.

Also, many programs have late rekrutacja if they need more students (and/or positions might open up if accepted students don't show). The mentality of Polish office workers would not to mention these unless specifically asked.

Knowing what question to ask is key in dealing with any bureacracy (especially in Poland).

his meaning is quite clear. Why do you have to be so rude and pompous?

Roz, if someone said to you that he was interested in "recrutation" at the local university, wouldn't you probably think that they meant "recruitment" aka "campus recruitment" and the like?

I've often found, shades of Archie Bunker, that foreigners particularly (althought not exclusively) will confuse Latin-derived English words, however usually in that case, it's not about inventing "new" words, as much as it is mixing up already existing ones. A native English-speaking student of mine in a Comp. course some years back asked me what I knew about his topic of "Workman's Condensation".

He wasn't joking either:-)

I was being neither rude nor pompous, merely curious. I wish him successful studies.

...which is precisely what I did, the former, not the latter:-) He answered that he mistyped on his i-Phone, that's all.
What would be do without them!

What can be done at this moment ?

Part time or full time? Full time will be impossible - the deadline in public universities is because candidates are ranked in order, and you need to meet the deadline in order to be part of the ranking. What you can do is go full time in a private university for the 1st year, then transfer into a public university in the 2nd year.

Part time will be easy, just go to the Dean responsible for part time studies in the faculty and he/she will be able to arrange it for you. You'll probably have to apply to the rector, but they will guide you.
