How long can students stay in a university in Poland?

Hello all. I have a small wonder.

One of my friend told me about his friend who is a current medical student in Poland AND surprisingly he's studying for 15 years!
Is that possible? I've never heard such a story and hard to believe.
Or you can do that if you pay?
If anybody can explain, please tell me!
　

He could stop his studies and start them from the beginning. Even for a few times.

Anyone can study for 40 or 50 years as long as you have the money to pay for the courses. There is nothing stopping you from being a student from the age of 18 to 90. EXCEPT one thing - you must have the money to do it and p.s. you must live and eat.

Even if you don't have the money for the tuition, you can start your studies from the beginning however many times you want. And nothing can stop you.

You pay if you need to repeat a course (exactly, if you don't pass the exam just after it and neither a semester later), but you can always repeat the whole study and you don't have to pay for that.

I have never thought that you can keep studying that way.
In my country, you can stay 8-10 years maximum and you will be kicked out of universities.
(Of course you can take an exam and re-enter the university)

And this way it works :)

In Poland you don't have entry exams, so it's easier in terms of this.

And the university gets paid for a student from the government, so for them it's so that the more students, the better.

Unbelievable! When I heard that story for the first time, I thought it's a joke that there's a someone who is studying one major for 15 years.

Now, I see few ways to do it and even a reason why the university keeps him!

Merged: Polish career student - another Masters Degree after PhD

My sons Polish girlfriend is working on her PhD. When asked what she will do when she is finished, she just said that she will get another Masters Degree. How common is this in Poland?

That's quite an extreme example. Rare, but certainly not unheard of.

"Professional" aka Life-long (LOL) students are by no small measure confined to Poland, but can be found in extremis, for example, in Germany, France, and Italy as well:-)

This is financially a tremendous drain on the state!

Thanks. I was so curious and a bit concerned really. She lives at home with mom and dad. Says she's never worked and doesn't seem to have any goals......marry an American and live in the states! Sorry, that might not be fair!
