Going to Poland for University - Galician/Prussian/Hungarian Heritage

Hi-
I'm planning on attending the University of Wrocław starting in October. I'm from the United States but am of Polish heritage. My mother's grandparents came from Galicia (between Rzeszow and Lwów) and from the Eastern part of Poland. My father's family is from Europe too. I speak some Polish but not fluently. I've never been to Poland before and will be studying Chemistry and Biotechnology.

What should I expect being in Poland? Do the people there speak some English? What do people in Poland think of Eastern Europeans from the United States? I am proud of and respect the culture and heritage of my ancestors - will this be appreciated?

I also like anime and Japan. Are there fans of anime in Poland?

There are a lot of questions you're asking here (most, if not all of them have already been discussed ;). What is the single most important questions you need an answer for? It seems you're more interested in Japan than Poland though and these countries, while they share a lot, are pretty much different. Poles aren't as crazy about anime as Japanese but you should be able to find enthusiasts on a student campus.

@Nathans My most important question is how Poles would view a person born in the US of Eastern European heritage? I understand that I have to learn Polish (which will be part of my University courses anyway :) ), but will I be able to blend in and assimilate easily? I know these questions are difficult to answer but I'm concerned about being kind of isolated because of where I was born.

I am interested in anime, yes (though now a crazy cosplay person who watches every anime that comes out). But I am more interested in being a part of my heritage and my bloodline.

You would be viewed as a normal guy and some Poles would look up to you (especially if your speaking English is perfect). You will be able to easily blend among other Poles or foreigners in Poland, unless you are a very weird looking which doesn't sound like ;) So you should have no worries and your Eastern-European background will help you get back on track to your ancestor's genes and behavior.

That sort of thing will be looked at weirdly, to be fair.
