Opinion about West Pomeranian Business School in Szczecin? Is it a good school?

Hello! I recently got accepted in West Pomeranian Business School for my bachelors. I tried to find some information about it on the internet but couldn't find anything. I want to know if its worth going there. Any advice would be great. Thanks!

You need to look for it by its correct name "Zachodniopomorska Szkola Biznesu w Szczecinie". It's the 7th best in Szczecin (not great given the size of the place) and in the European rankings it's in something like the 5800th place. Not great.

Thanks for the feedback. I guess it has a better or almost the same ranking as Wroclaw University of Economics. I applied to these three Poznan University of Economics, Wroclaw University of Economics and West Pomeranian Business School. Didn't get a reply yet from the first two but Poznan would be my first choice

No, it is far lower in the ranking than Wroclaw. A whole different kettle of fish. Poznan however has a good reputation.

Remember though that rankings aren't everything - there are lots of factors that you should consider. Better to be happy somewhere less well known than miserable somewhere prestigious. Life's too short for that.

'Scuse the repeat posts, but I've got a bit of time to kill and had a look on the Poland-wide rankings of all institutions. The Wroclaw University of Economics is number 44 in Poland among all Higher Education establishments, the Zachodniopomorskie Business School is number 289, 24 places behind the Vocational Higher School of Cherishing of Health and Beauty in Poznan. The Poznan Higher School of Business is number 34.

Thanks a lot bro :) This really helped me and you said it ranking isn't everything. I'm actually in my last year of bachelors and I applied for a transfer in those universities. So i'm really excited as I have never been to Europe before, even if it's West Pomeranian :)

One would imagine that that ranking is for that school's Polish-language courses too (Joey, Polish colleges which offer courses in Polish and English virtually always have significantly better courses in Polish).


I don't think I've ever read about anybody being excited to go to Szczecin; I've certainly never read about anybody being excited to go back to Szczecin. I do understand that going to Europe is exciting, but is a year at a school which ranks below the Vocational Higher School of Cherishing of Health and Beauty in Poznan really a good use of your time? And your money? Will it have a beneficial effect on your future? Might you not be better served by either going to one of the other schools you mention (both of which are decent) or just saving your cash and doing a few months' backpacking in Europe with the cash you save by not doing a year at West Pomeranian Business School?

Why shouldn't anyone be excited to go to Szczecin? Or coming back? It's a lovely city. I have been there many times, and going back in May. Rankings are not everything. Study hard and you will succeed.

Well as I said Poznan and Wroclaw University of economics are my first choice and it's true that ranking isn't the only thing. I guess what matters more is the work experience, internships, languages. I don't think ranking matters unless it's an ivy league

I think that if this was my first visit to Europe and I was young, I'd be exited too. Szczecin isn't a bad place - it's an interesting city, not too large to be confusing and not too small to be boring. You will meet plenty of new people and make friends and it's a good place to travel from, both to Warsaw and to Berlin.

Poland (especially outside the capital) can be frustrating sometimes - this forum can be a good place to discuss if you find that happening. Most people around Szczecin have their roots much further east (it was always Germany, but the Germans were kicked out 70 years ago and the whole region re populated by people from the easternmost part of Poland that is now in Belarus/Ukraine. This means that the culture there is very Eastern European rather than the Central European feel that you get in, say, Kraków. Hopefully you'll enjoy the vodka!

I think you'll like it, and the Business School should be a decent place to study.

My son went there for a year. We couldn't complain. Definitely better than some public schools in US :) School is great. Opened mind of our children, helped them develop themselves, surely made them better people. Great teachers, very good contact parents-teachers-students. Definitely A+.

Save your money. A degree from this school is just about worthless. The same is true for just about all other private business schools in Poland.

I read this everywhere on Polish forums that getting a degree from a Polish school or University is worthless. I wonder why?

In the Polish language, it's fine. In the English language, it's garbage, especially from a private university. English language courses at private universities are at the very bottom in Poland when it comes to quality.

Damn and they asked me to give IELTS. Double standards :/

Probably also such English courses are not even given by English native speakers, but instead by Poles or other "entitled" EU nationalsLOL

I graduated from this school last October.

Pluses:
The school is nice, environment good, cheaper than other similar courses, I learnt a lot because I don't have a background in business/economics, 10/15 people in the classroom.

Minuses:
There are good and very bad teachers. Some of them do not speak English well. Get used to send an email to the secretary and wait for a week for a reply. When we graduated they didn't even mention foreign students during the celebration (I complanied and the dean apologized), some teachers are really good while others are too Polish (meaning that they are still using that kind of very old style approach in which the teacher is the bearer of the truth). No connection with companies.

Before starting the program there, I was enrolled at KU Leuven, which is among the top 20 universities in Europe and was number 67 in the world. I left it because it sucked and I liked the program at WPBS much more than the one in the super cool school. Rankings are worth pretty much nothing unless you go to the TOP schools such as London Business School and a couple more in Europe or you go to Harvard and so on. These rankings are based on many factors and not just because one school is "better" than another. I have degrees and work experience from/in very good schools, so I know.

It depends on what works for you. If you want to be "a corporate worker" than you need to spend money or get the company pay for your MBA. These top schools are generally paid by companies, not by individuals because they are too expensive (100.000 euros for fees, rent, food, time you cannot work etc... ). If you want to learn about business and maybe start something on your own, I would recommend WPBS.
