Admitted To Warsaw University Of Technology (Politechnika Warszawska)

Hey guyz , i am admitted to to electrical engineering and i will be starting from 1 OCT 2010. Please Tell me a bout the reputation and how can my german and english skills would help me in poland. I am also looking for private accomodation since the dormitory is full. Please advise me where can I find accomodation for 100 euro per month and it should be good town. Regards

Thanks Harry for your prompt reply. Please also enlighten me about the prestige of Warsaw University Of Technology. Please tell me the minimum amount required for accomodation @ per month ? University dormitory was offering EUR100 per month but unfortunately i missed it.

My sister-in-law is starting University in Warsaw and what I gather is that quite a few people share flats.
So it maybe an idea to go to the University, or if they have a website, to see if people need an extra person to share.

This does in fact make it worse. For 100 euro per month it might be tough to rent a toilet cabin on Centralny Train Station these days.

I used to own a small bachelor's pad in downtown Warsaw ( near Intraco ) which I sometimes rented and the market rent on this little piece of heaven was 1200 zł/per month ( without bills ).

he will rent a room for a lil bit bigger price I think (but not sure). It depends where.
If you choose the suburbs check the metro stations where you will have a nice connection with PW. If not don't even try to go by bus to school... it's better to rent a room downtown and pay twice.

A question to all the people from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nigeria and so on, who want to study
in Poland: Why Poland? I mean, most of you speak English, why not go to an English speaking
country? It will be possible for you to communicate with people, without having to learn one
of the most difficult languages in the world, the wages are better, if you want to study and work
at the same time. Really, people, why Poland? It makes so little sense, so VERY little sense,
that it makes me suspect that 90% of posters, who introduce themselves as Pakistani, Hindu,
Nigerian etc. future students in Poland, are in fact nothing but trolls.

Better universities in Britain & Ireland too.

Mind you, I did meet a Nigerian guy who studied in Poland before coming to Ireland.

The answer is simple - Polish Unis are much more cheaper than British or Irish. Also the cost of living are lower (but I agree it's difficult task to find a work here in Poland when someone is a foreigner).

Not everyone can study in Britain, Ireland, USA etc. All schools have limits and standards that must be met before entrance into the institution.

These pakis coming to poland were probably not accepted to these better known english unis so they chose Poland - i'm sure plenty of others chose czech rep, hungary, germany, austria etc...

They go where they are accepted. Anywhere in Europe is better than pakistan or nigeria. And poland is in the EU so i'm sure they will try to make their way over to western europe eventually.

Anyways, ill say it here again, although 'Bolle' and 'zetigrek' answered half the question :)

First of all, I wanna study in EU, because in USA, Canada, or Australia, its quite expensive and getting in uni there is very hard! Plus, USA and Canada is on the other side of the world. anyways, so in EU, i searched for my program (architecture/ civil engineering) in english in Germany, Finland, Sweden et al. but unfortunately, there is no bachelors degree available in those places in english, but at WUT, i found my course in english, so which is a good option for me! Therefore, i chose Poland. plus, i got loadz of friends in Poland, so thats not bad :)

PS: I am a Bangladeshi but been living abroad for 12 years (i was in my country only for 5 years)

All right, that makes slightly more sense now. But still... Hungary, Czech Republic or Slovenia
are all in the EU, have equally good universities (if not better), wages are better and climate
is nicer there. Also, if you're looking for low cost of living and cheap education then Romania
or Bulgaria (both EU countries) would both be more logical choices.

You say that you have some Polish friends. That's OK, but most foreign students, when they
first come here, do not. So, why Poland? It is indeed strange. Especially that our country is
usually depicted abroad as not very friendly for foreigners, with xenophobic population,
aggressive skinheads etc. (of course, it's all bullcrap, but such image exists.)

You seem to think Poland would always be anybody's last choice, made out of necessity or despair. Why so serious? ;-)

I personally think that Politechnika Warszawska is a kick-ass university, and would congratulate anyone who got admitted.

Oh, absolutely. Actually, there is a banner saying exactly that, hanging over my bed ;)

Not wrong there. I once wrote a PhD thesis at a Scottish uni, defended and was asked to rewrite. For various reasons I never got around to doing so so it got shelved. I recently learned it was possible to finish and submit the rewrite (after 6 years) although it would cost me around 1500 pounds (this is just to submit and have it examined, no supervision etc). That works out at around 7500 zlots. To do a completely new PhD in Poland would cost only a bit more than that.

Another thing to consider is that there are a number of international funding programmes which might be applicable to people studying in EU/Poland which would make it financially easier than UK or US.

There is no work for foreign students that can't speak Polish, unless you count native English speakers moonlighting as English teachers.

If you do find work, it'll be for about 5zl an hour.

Yep, i did search Hungary and they do have programes in english, however, Hungary turned out to be more costly (tuition fee, living isn't expensive tho) ..... and other countries like Czech Rep, Slovakia, Romania, Slovenia etc, i'm not sure if they offer studies in english BUT even if they do, my dad would disagree sending me in those places lol

and about living life in Poland, well, let's just say, i'll have to get used to it :) ...... if might be strange and all to me in the beginning but will be fine later hopefully (altho i might find it hard to get a mosque to pray haha) ....

and about those people, well they r basically everywhere.

Anyway - best of luck to you in your studies. I hope they will give you plenty of useful
skills, which later you will be able to use to make your home country a better place to live.
I'd say that Bangladesh, as a developing country, is in bad need of good engineers.
I am glad that Poland can help Bangladesh with giving education to its future elite.

10K per year and rising for tuition fees alone for foreign students, plus a crack down on foreign students work over their allowed limit - now do you understand why they applying to study in Poland? Plus there's added benefit if they manage to find a wife there when they've completed their studies they can move to the UK..

Also student visas are not as easy to get hold of for the UK as they were, so I'd say a great number of them studying in Poland are using fraudulent education quals or wouldnt meet the maintenance funds requirements to be able to study in the UK.

We hardly see eye-to-eye, but in this case, you're bang on the money.

The only purpose for most of them coming here is to try and find a Polish wife or find the means to stay in the EU. The quality of most academic studies is usually extremely low by European standards, especially in private universities - why would they waste the money if it wasn't for the chance of staying in the EU?

I still can't figure out why many of them think that they can work here.

It's going to get a damn sight more expensive, since home student fees are set to rise to about 10K and immigration caps are tightening, Poland should brace itself for an influx..


Because they think ALL European countries are just begging for their services? He would have discounted Germany straight away since they are not allowed to work. Im not sure why his father was so against the Czech Republic and thought Poland was better? Do you have any thoughts on this?
