Is it even possible to get a house with meldunek as a student in Poland?

Hello, I'm coming to Poland pretty much in 10 days for education in uni but for the love of god I cant find a single place that will give me meldunek document for living permit. My polish girlfriend is doing the calls and if we are lucky to not get hung up on the face after saying I'm Turkish, we only end up to see those who are never willing to give meldunek document. I guess its because of the taxes stuff but seriously, there should be a way around this, either something to make it easy or a site or whatever to see landlords who are willing to give this.

I'd really love to hear some suggestions of people who do manage to get this damned document, I'm not there yet but I'm already stressed I wont get the living permit just because of this unbelievably daft piece of sheet.

How are you all managing this? I'm looking for some advice

You know, Turkish are mostly Muslims and Muslims are killing Christians in Syria, Iraq, making terrorists attacks, so you're not very popular here. Why don't you get dormitory? You can rent single apartment just for yourself there.

Most landlords are frightened of tenants having a meldunek for various reasons, most of them nonsense since 1989 if not always. People in Poland are also not usually aware that you can get a temporary meldunek. Also, if your landlord refuses to give you one, you can go to the town hall with your rental agreement, sign a piece of paper saying that your landlord refuses and you will get a different document. How useful that document is, I don't know, however you might get some good advice about this from the student welfare officer at your university who will certainly have come across this situation before.

Well whatever muslims are doing in another country, I dont think anything justifies generalizations not to mention Turkey isnt mostly muslim. Also what muslims are killing are other muslims, thanks to the corrupt media and manipulations. About dormitory I want to live together with my gf so it wont work, except for as a last resort I can sign up for dormitory and show that as my residence while living in a rented house.

Yeah seems to be the problem with meldunek that I cant be kicked out easily, but I am sending emails to these people saying I will sign a document saying I can be kicked out on renewal of contracts so might get some people to agree finally. Some people are telling me I should just find some Polish friend and show their house as a residency but I dont really see how legit and efficient that would be.

I am really wondering about one thing, this temporary meldunek thing, at first I am supposed to get that right? as someone outside EU can I still get a permanent one or do I have to go there every 3 months with the landlord and be arsed with it not to mention getting a landlord to do that everytime.

That's what so many think, but it just isn't true - unless you're a woman with a young child or a part owner of the property. But still they believe that.


Not so much a case of "supposed to", it's just an option available.


No such thing as a permanent one - they are (except for temporary ones) undated and the irony of it all is that the landlord can cancel it at any time as quickly and easily as he or she can get one. They just don't realise that since it isn't an issue that generally affects Polish people.

Oh I see, well do you know if I can get a meldunek for a year if my contract is for a year?

I feel like just paying 200eur to school residency while renting another place sounds worthy to just not be arsed with the whole landlord ass kissing.

They aren't generally dated. I once had a 3 month meldunek, a few years ago.

Why not put an advert on Gumtree - your girlfriend can translate and you can explain that you need a temporary meldunek - some brave, foreign themselves, or just well-informed landlord might respond?

Oh that's a great idea, getting on with that just now. I guess you are foreign as well dealing with all the stuff? How do you cope with it, does it get overwhelming or does it cool off after the first times, cause so far among all the stuff I'm checking seems like the paperwork for my living permit will be more than my school's studies itself. I'd really like to know how it actually goes along, can guess its tough but does it get frustrating?

Yes, though every country has its own frustrations for foreigners. I remember hassles with my SIM card when I was working for a while in your country and Turkcell cut my phone off and wouldn't sell me a new one! The same sort of thing can happen in my country too sometimes. Poles often complain themselves about bureaucracy, but at least they often have a sense of the way the system works and what lies behind it. Though not always - sometimes they find it overwhelming, especially if they're helping a foreigner since matters that affect foreigners in Poland are outside most people's experience.


That sounds likely. I wonder if there's an Association of Turkish (or just foreign) Students in Poland who might be able to walk you through the process?

Got to be something of similarity but the good thing is the faculty I'm gonna study at is made out of foreigners completely, I'm going to try my luck with either the dormitory if its cheap or find someone who's willing to give me meldunek, that is unless I cant find a rentable place that will also give me meldunek, thanks for the answers jon

This is not a question of religion its a question of greed from landlords they dont want to pay tax pure and simple
but many poles also favour monitors view of muslims are bad and threaten the "holy" Catholic church

Going to be tough living in a place where I'm automatically muslim and their idea of muslim doesnt seem to be far off from the distorted American media where muslims are killing everyone, while ironically the guns they are using are all American product... Anyway hopefully I wont be that much of an alien though, I went there for 15 days and I did get stared a lot even though I dont look Turkish that much, hopefully it should be better when I learn the language.

Yes. Many have been there and seen that for themselves. I've never heard a bad word about Turkish people in Poland.

There are also negative news about Muslim immigrants to Europe. For example annual riots of mostly African immigrants in Paris or regular riots of Muslims in Malmo, Sweden. I know that Turkey is the most European country out of Muslim countries. Ataturk changed Arabic alphabet into Latin, you have division of religion from state, but I don't understand why you denied Turkey being mostly Muslim.

Because it changed a lot over the years, right now the president is appealing to people by using religion and for the last 5-6 years this made a lot of young people actually hate islam, right now there is a huge population of atheists and other religions completely opposing islam due to reasons like this yet still we have a big population of muslim people, might be less than %50 or might be higher just a little bit but I know for fact its lowering day by day.

In Germany there is a good instrument of separating religious from not religious people. You must declare in your tax office which religion (or no religion) you belong to and if it is Catholic or Protestant, then you're charged with extra tax which is around 2% of your NET income (also interests from investments above I think 100 000 EUR). The tax supports your religious organization.

And don't be offended. I like Turkish people, I was living for some time in Bursa and I think you have quite good country, but what I wrote are only facts which some people may generalize to all Muslims.

The question is why religious groups should get taxpayers' money in some countries rather than actually pay tax on their takings like every other hobbyists club.

Absolute separation of religions from state make much more sense - if people want to believe or pretend they believe in x, y or z, let them do it privately among themselves.

2 things before we over-complicate this:

why not get your girlfriend to just rent the place in her name?

or..

take your Rental Contract to the meldunek office and just get a meldunek that way? Super easy and that's all they need (I just got a meldunek within the last month).
