Good places to live in Krakow

I'm considering to move from Finland to Krakow for work. I would like to hear comments about areas in Krakow where to live. I would like to live in a good area where would be safety to live. Which areas I should avoid? My maximum for rent is around 1500zlotys monthly.

I don't know Kraków well (know a bit of it only and just from short visits) but I was told some time ago that the area of Kraków Podgórze railway station was not safe - I would think it's not a nice place to live anyway - Podgórze is in the southern part of the city behind Vistula (from the Old Town) and quite a distance from the Old Town too

I think you should consider where you are working, due to a big traffic in Krakow.

Are there a lot of traffic rush? These might be stupid guestions but I haven't ever been in Poland.

Krakow is absolutely terrible. I lived there and eventually got sick with commuting. In the summer it's not too bad - you can ride bike. But when the weather gets worse, you are at the mercy of the limited number of parking spaces, slow public transport and extremely limited number of routes from the suburbs to the center (read: traffic jams). Kraków may be acceptable if your work place is located in the suburbs and you can live nearby. But otherwise - beware!

Dude dont worry, i moved to Krakow from Denmark 5 months ago without ever being here. But believe me you are gonna love it!

For around 1500 PLN pr month, and even less you can get a nice apartment in Kazimierz (i live there) its an amazing place to live, close to everything.

It all depends though were will you be working here in Krakow? I dont think the traffic is so bad if you use public transport, bc they have certain routes were cars cant go so you get back and forward quiet fast.

I'm going to work in IBM though I don't know where it's located..

IBM is located on ul. Armii Krajowej to the north east of the centre which, luckily for you, is near to some nice residential districts. I'd recommend you try and find an apartment in the Krowodrza or Nowa Wies districts - you'll be able to walk to work and in to the Old Town in the evenings. But in any case, there are loads of buses that go past as it's opposite the main university campus and halls of residence.

Defenatly somewhere around the cracovia stadium is nice, and still within walking distance to both Rynek as well as IBM.

But like Inkrakow said there is plenty of busses, so wherever you live in krakow you can reach this place within 30 minutes by public transportation.

Thanks guys for answers. I'm Finnish and I haven't got any clear answer about taxation. I have understood that everybody pays 19% when the gross incomes are under 10 000+ but then there are some other taxes?

You pay around 30% after everything has been taken.

So lets say your salary would be 6500 PLN, then after all taxes youd have like 4600-4700 PLN.

Btw in case you didnt know, there are alot of finnish expants here in krakow.

It's actually not that dangerous and has superb architecture, nice wide streets and cheap places to eat.

Dear Expats,

I will be reallocating soon to Krakow, I will be working at Philip Morris International.
I have been wondering what is the best area to live in? I would like some assistance in that. I am person who likes to go out and party, so also I would like to live near the busy area of Krakow (I wouldnt mind spending 30 minutes each day to go to work.)

What can I expect to pay for a one bedroom with a functional kitchen. Would need elevator or ground floor location. Love to be accessible to old town or Jewish quarter.
