I was agreeing that its NOT on the travel warning list. You didn't address anything I said., which I take as your tacit acknowledgement that you are in fact being disingenous, discount the experiences of rape victims of asylees, and are so blinded by ideology that you refuse to even concede that these events happen, no matter how uncomfortable. It is essentially pointless to engage with you on here, because it's not a two-way conversation, it's your short quips to satisfy your own ego and self aggrandizement so you can convince yourself you're the smartest person in the room (youre not). Good day.
You would do better to look at your country's official travel websites; they issue travel warnings if there is a particular issue.
They dont give out details on the European Nazi gatherings, fascist parades or inform us about Islamic prayers being broadcasted with loudspeakers. Hardly a place where most Americans would want to take a vacation. Last year in the Cayman Islands, I didn't see or hear any of this nor would I ever want too.
Their reprehensible behavior does not excuse another groups reprehensible behavior
Your world view is too black and white. Most problems we see in the Middle East, North Africa and Europe these days can be traced back to a handful of world powers meddling in the affairs of other countries. Starting with the colonial powers drawing borders while ignoring ethnic lines, ending with the Gulf wars and the Arab Spring. Religious extremism/ terrorism is just another facet.
Probably because there are so few. Though even one fascist gathering is one too many. Mind you, there is the famous photograph of the Polish woman handbagging the fascist who was polluting her town in Sweden; there's even a statue of that now.
It is indeed. It's a huge pity that the cost of housing in Stockholm is horrendous, otherwise it would be a great place to live. I suspect those making comments about Sweden have never been there.
Hahaha...it is funny that you guys pretty much wont engage in an actual debate on ideas anymore and defend your points of view, instead you keep it to short snarky quips and then waddle off(omg hes fat shaming!!). Lol, nothing else to do when you're intellectually bested.
I suspect those making comments about Sweden have never been there.
Speaking for myself I was there in the 90's when I was amazed about the cars parked on the side of the road with the windows left open as if there was no thieves back then, something you are not going to see in today's Sweden. Just for the record, I stayed in the hotel, couchsurfing is for poor losers.
I was last in Goteborg in the early 90's and encountered there some stray Poles who apparently didn't speak any Swedish. The city's a knockout, but couldn't imagine living in (not even just visiting) a country without knowing at least the basics of the language.
Had a wonderful time though and would return if I could:-) However, knowing the language, for me, made all the difference.
Having read the article to which Maf linked, I may well say that I'd be rather reluctant to visit Sweden.
Articles of this kind have regularly been published in wp.pl for quite a time, so I am not at all surprised at the facts presented in The Spectator. The most amazing thing is this culture of denial pursued by Sweden, but to a lesser extent anywhere else in the so-called "rotten" West. Do you remember how Our Dear Leader Chairman Jarosław Kaczyński (or someone from his entourage) got an immediate rebuke from Sweden when he mentioned the "no-go" zones in their cities? This form of denial is usually associated with non-democratic states or nations in decline - writes The Spectator.
How could Swedish politicians counteract the problem if they deny that the problem exists?
A lot depends on money. As Tino Sanandaji points out (repeatedly) the upper classes are largely able to live in a bubble untouched by the violence and dysfunction in the poor unassimilated migrant areas and have trouble believing how bad it can get and since it doesn't directly affect them (the way it doesn't directly affect jon or delph) they don't really care. It's a lack of abstract thought and empathy, as long as they can display 'progressive' values they mostly don't care how those play out at ground level.
I've pointed this out so many times I almost sick of saying it. I'll say it again only because I enjoy rubbing it in that their world view is absolutely collapsing, their politics are garbage, and their virtue signalling social justice warrior engineering is causing an enormous amount of harm to innocent CITIZENS. I want to reiterate CITIZENS, as citizenship is REAL and it matters. A nations entire point of existing is to provide security for its citizens. Non-citizens are not entitled to, nor do they deserve the same things as CITIZENS. Those making these policies and those advocating (members of this forum) for these policies are insulated and largely unaffected. Their lack of compassion displayed earlier in this thread, particular Delph's dismissal of a victim of rape, shows that they're wholly unconcerned with the working poor and lower middle class becoming the victims of migrant crime. So blinded by ideology, that they must stick to it despite the consequences. It has a striking similarity to those who were devotees of communism, where despite bread lines, a lack of resources in general, and a curtailing of all manner of civil liberties they stayed devoted to the overarching ideology of an equality of outcome. Many more people will have to die, many more will be raped, assaulted, and suffer grievous bodily injury before there is a change in policy. I wonder what it would take in Sweden, where even an MP who was raped by a migrant was reluctant to bring her case forward because she feared it would imperil her assaulter asylum case. A sick sick immoral ideology and world view.
p.s.- the only reason Delph and Jon are insulated from it is because of the conviction of the Polish government and their moral and principled position of putting citizens first above barbarians. Thanks PiS.
As other posters have said before, one of the main problems with all this "lefty-liberal" political correctness is that the general public are getting more and more fed up with it and it is encouraging increasing support for the far right.Which I am sure is something none of us want.
I suspect those making comments about Sweden have never been there.
Its a bit hypocritical that you would make such a comment as you constantly spread fake and false allegations against America. A place you have never been too as well.
Has been very informative about the facts and the current situation about Sweden. As a tourist, planning my summer vacation. I will refrain from traveling to such places.
Furthermore, Sweden should be show as an example of the disease called Political Correctness and how it destroys countries.
I was there in summer, "Midsommar" to be more precise, and while it was to be sure a good deal chillier than New York, I noticed most of the restaurant staff in all but maybe the finest, five-star hotels were exclusively foreigners aka brown-skinned Pakistanis....barely a native ethnic Swede in the service industry to be found, save for some occasional front-desk staff of student age.
Sweden, that is Goteborg and Boraas, was great and while the Swedes were slightly taken aback a first that I spoke to them only in Swedish, they appreciated it in the long run.
From what I have seen what's happened to much of urban Sweden of late, I'm starting to seriously re-think a return trip(:-
Why do you post a link to the very same article that Maf linked on this page 10 posts before yours? You don't read other people's post and only listen to your own propaganda, do you?
Since most of the people here slating Swedish crime rates are American its worth reminding that it is a far safer country than the US. And no before you use your bizarre logic Sig, pointing out these facts does not mean I dont care about rape victims
Not really - there has been a slight increase in murders since 1993 but no clear correlation to immigration.
Gun murders definitely increased but but the total of 45 is still for example half of the annual number in a comparatively quiet town like Charlotte NC. If you wanted to compare Malmo to a real murder capital, like Gary Indiana then you would need a bigger computer screen to handle the graph.
Rape has increased as discussed many times due to different ways of recording it in Sweden.
Burglaries have actually decrease and what there is has been blamed on Easrt Europeans.
The Sepctator is a good read but it is a pretty right wing organ, the house journal of the Brexit nut jobs wing of the Tory party.
God knows what the story is with the hand Grenades - they obviously came at some point from Bosnia. If it would appear they are used for gang warfare, presumably they are easier to hide than a gun.
